While Snow, Emma, Hook and Regina were doing everything they could to retrieve Henry’s heart back from Pan, Neal and David stayed with the unconscious boy. This whole island had put them through their biggest fears and provided the whole group with though challenges which first seemed to be unable to conquer. The fate of his grandson now laid upon the rest of the group and the will of Pan on wanting to see the harm he was doing by his cruel plans. It was hard to see Henry lying onto the moisty ground, his head getting supported by David’s jacket. There was nothing he could do at this point, nothing else than waiting and hoping for something good to happen. The same concern he had was easy to read into the eyes of Neal who sat next to his son, waiting for the rest of the group to get back with his son’s heart. “They will get his heart back you know.” David said as he let his eyes wander towards his grandson’s father. “We just have to keep hoping that they will. Apart from that there isn’t much that we can do right now.” He was being realistic but at the same time his heart was hurting by fear coming from his own words. There is nothing we can do right now…. Why was he not able to protect his grandson? Why was he not able to keep his family from getting in danger and from getting taken from him? Neal Cassidy

Neal was sitting there by his son's side, refusing to move until Snow, Regina and Emma got back with his heart. Being back on this island had brought back a whole lot of memories that he had long forgotten, and, had added new fears to his already complicated life. The sight of his son lying unconcious on the ground made Neal more determined then ever that he should have taken Pan down years ago when he was still on this island. He knelt down on the ground beside him, and, stroked Henry's hair gently in an attempt to comfort him, and, let him know that no matter what happened he would always be there with him. His eyes scanned the island to check whether he could see anyone coming, but, already he knew that answer. His sense of hearing had grown intently due to all the years of running away and having to listen out for dangers or the swift feet of anyone who was after him, such as the Lost Boys, or bullies and social workers. Neal's eyes turned towards David as he heard him speak. "Can you be so sure of that?" Neal asked, the sadness and worry obvious in his voice. "Hope. That has never served me well in the past. It sounds more like your thing." Neal didn't mean anything by this, but, in his life, being realistic had always been the better choice. Especially for him. His heart hurt as he let David's words sink in. Neal knew the truth he had failed his son. He wasn't able to protect him when he needed him to the most. Why couldn't he have just believed his father and stayed with him in the Neverwood. Then he may have actually succeeded in protecting his son from Pan. "This is all my fault" Neal said, not knowing it was out loud. Prince Charming /David Nolan

Neal obviously doubted if all this was going to end well. David understood the doubt he felt as it was something he was going through himself at this moment. But David tried to ban that doubt into the back of his mind while thinking of the people that went after Pan to get his grandson’s heart back. Something told him that he didn’t had to be worried, that everything would work out for the best. David pinched the bridge of his nose with one of his hands before Neal told him that it was all his fault. It made David frown and look up to him. “It’s no one’s fault but Pan’s. He used Henry to get his heart. The only one that we have to blame for this is him.” David didn’t understand where all of this was coming from, the thought of Neal that it was his fault. “We’re not going to get any closer to Henry’s heart if we keep thinking that it’s our own fault.” A sigh escaped David’s mouth as he started pacing through their camp. Every sound of breaking branches or crunching leafs made him look up, his hand onto the handle of his sword. He was being on his guards, certainly now when a huge part of the group tried to hunt Pan down to get back what was theirs. Neal Cassidy

It wasn't that Neal doubted anyone of the people who went after Pan, but, based on past experiences that he'd come across in his life, there was the hidden doubt that his family was going to be taken from him again. Just like it always had before. It wasn't like he didn't trust any of them, the people who went after Pan for his son's heart, but, he knew this island as well as Pan did. And he also knew Pan himself. He'd spent nearly two centuries as a lost boy on this island, which made him know he had to worry. Neal rested his head on the rim of his hands as they stayed together, he saw flashes of his time on this island, both recent events, and, one or two of his first time here. His most recent memory was what he and his father had said before he wandered off with Henry alone. “I know, but, I can't help, but, feel like I failed him. Let him get close enough to Pan and let him suck him in.” Neal knew that the only two people who knew how he got into that cage, and, how Pan got Henry back was him and his father. “You know I had Henry safe, with his heart still intact. We were out of the camp, and far away from him or any of his lost boys, but, I let Pan's words get into my head, and, now look what happened.” Neal didn't know why he had let Pan get to him again, it was just like when he was a kid. He didn't take his gaze off of Henry, he wasn't letting him get away from him, not again. Thanks to his life before Storybrooke, he had been able to learn how to see out of the corners of his eyes. Every sound from the trees, any snap of a twig made Neal's head raise, before moving himself closer to Henry to make sure he was protected. Prince Charming /David Nolan

David stopped pacing when he heard the words coming from Neal. With hurried steps he made his way to him, both his hands into his sides, looking at Henry’s father with surprise and slight disappointment. “What do you mean? What do you mean with what you just said? You had Henry already?” one of his hands gestured towards his grandson who laid upon the ground, heartless and unconscious. “Who is that ‘we’ you are talking about?” David’s eyes widened when the realization about who the other person was came to him. “Gold… you and Gold had Henry and still you managed to let Pan get his hands on him again?! Why didn’t Gold do something about it? Why didn’t he stop him?” David’s voice raised a bit. The island had a certain effect on him that showed at unexpected moments. An effect that made him act different than how he normally would. “What exactly did Pan mentioned to you that made you unaware of what he was trying to do? Tell me Neal” David couldn’t understand why Neal didn’t say anything about this earlier. Why he kept this earlier saving a secret to the rest of the group? Maybe for the kind of reaction that he just gave him? Or was he afraid to be called a coward too, just like his father? David tried to push those thoughts of anger and disappointment away while he gave the man the chance to explain himself. Neal Cassidy

The reaction from David was exactly what he was expecting. That probably would've been what he had said in the Echo Caves this time around, a lot different to what he would've said as a kid. Neal glanced at his son, and, realised that he had made the biggest mistake when he left his father paralysed with squid ink. At David's question, Neal looked back up “Actually, yeah I, I did.” Neal lowered his head in shame as he gestured to where his son lay. Neal was about to answer the question, when he realised that David had already figured out who the 'we' were. “Yes, ok. Yes me and my father got Henry away from Pan's camp. I was doing what I thought I could do to keep Henry safe.” Neal had his frustration obvious in his voice, but, not so much in David shouting at him, but, more so at himself. Neal felt his anger raising, the feelings of the island once again re-surfacing, just like when he was a kid. Neal had kept this a secret for a reason. He didn't want to let this get in the way of anything, and, he didn't want people judging him. The exact reaction that David had just given him with that last question, and, all the previous ones. It wasn't that he was a coward, he was just making a snap judgement to do what he thought he had to do to keep his son safe on his island. David's next question made Neal look back up at him, “Ok, I will tell you.” Neal said in frustration, before standing up off of the log so that he was face to face with David. “What Pan told me was that my father was here to kill Henry instead of save him. And then my father so much confirmed it, by telling me that same thing word for word in grave details. I did what I thought I had to. Yes, it might have been a bit stupid, but, I made a decision that I thought would keep my son safe.” Neal gulped silently as he felt his hands turning into fists, looking down on the ground, to calm down his frustration before looking back up at David. “Is that what you wanted to hear David? Is it?”Prince Charming /David Nolan

Both of the men were getting irritated. Voices got raised and looks of annoyance got shared. The jungle air was a challenge to get into David’s lungs each time he breathed. It was heavy and warm and seemed to be closing off his lungs for proper oxygen. “What?” David his eyes widened when Neal told him about the actual plans of Rumplestiltskin. He is wanting to kill his own grandson?! Anger started to get the best of David, making him grab onto the collar of Neal his shirt and pushing him against a nearby tree. “What else did he say? What is he going to do? Is he teaming up with Pan?” A lot of questions came out at once, and all of them had to get answered. Henry was being unconscious and his heart was in the hands of the puppet master of this island. Rumple formed another threat, one that was impossible for David to keep an eye on. “Why didn’t you tell all of us that before? Why?!” his voice raised once more, holding a tight grip onto the collar of Neal’s shirt. Pressing his back more and more into the tree behind him. “You’re not only risking the life of your own son right now, but also the lives of my wife and daughter, even from Regina. Start talking!” Neal Cassidy

### notes everything that happens, happens by design Neal felt his anger growing inside of him, the island was getting to him again, just like it had when he was a kid, and, it was making him take out his anger on innocent people who didn't really deserve it.
After explaining why he wasn't with his father Neal expected that reaction from David, but, then he felt himself choking as he was pushed against a tree by his collar. The first question was one that he didn't really know the answer to, but, luckily it didn't matter because David wasn't done anyway.
His son was unconscious and that was what worried him the most, was the fact that he had gotten Henry away from Pan and stupidly let him get into his head all over again. In a way, he should've stayed with his father to make sure he could keep an eye on him, because he was most dangerous when he was alone anywhere. Neal blinked his eyes and gulped as he heard that next question and once again felt the grip around his neck. The last sentence really laid the guilt on Neal, he had unintentionally got others involved in Pan's games.
“What he told me was that because of a seer back in the Enchanted Forest, he had been told of a prophecy that a boy would be his undoing, and, that boy is apparently Henry. As for whether he's working for Pan, I'm not sure.” Neal said, catching his breath real quick before answering the next one. “I wanted all of us to focus on saving Henry, and, if we're trying to keep an eye on my father at the same time then our focus would've been on the wrong thing, rather then getting Henry safe.” His gaze went to his son and a sad smile grew on his face, as he thought of the fact that he might lose him. “I know. And I really never meant anyone any harm, so I'm sorry I really am.” ulla

David felt a huge disappointment for the man but at the same time he tried to get himself inside the thinking of Neal. Why he did what he did, and what David himself might have done in that situation. A frustrated sigh left his mouth while he let go of the man’s collar. It was the island. It was the island that made David react the way he just did, and it was the Pan who tried to get pleasure out of them fighting with one another. A reality that David realized, but also one that he feared. All of them became victims of that little demon, Henry being the biggest victim of everyone. “I can’t believe all this, I just can’t” David walked away from Neal while pinching the bridge of his nose, trying to let all of the information about a certain seer sink in. “What made Gold believe that it’s Henry who that seer was talking about? It could have been another boy.” David paced back and forth while he let several thoughts ran through his mind. Rumple wanting to kill his own grandson being one of them. He had to admit that Neal was right when he mentioned the focus onto Henry instead of Rumple. If Neal would have told this much earlier and to anyone around, their focus would indeed have laid more upon Rumple and his future plans instead of a danger that came closer in a much more silent way. Everything that happens, happens by design | Neal really didn't need David laying on the guilt, he had enough of that himself. If he hadn't let Pan get in his head, then none of this part would be happening. But, he had done what he felt had to be done. He'd gotten Henry away from his father, and, made sure that the focus stayed on getting Henry back. Neal knew full well what the island did to people, it was the thing that had turned him into a completely different person on some level while here. The magic of this island and Pan's pipes had turned him into something he didn't even want to remember. Neal was once again a victim of that damn demon child, who got his pleasure from watching his plans work in his favour. And now the worst victim was his son.
“Neither can I” Neal said, taking a couple of deep breaths as he fixed his shirt and kept his eyes on David, as well as Henry. “I have no idea, I actually asked to confirm the identity that he thought Henry was the kid and I really don't know why he thought it was Henry at all, but, it was.”
Neal moved back over towards his son, taking a light grip of his hands and kissing them gently. So many thoughts ran through his head as he stayed there next to him. The feeling of his father wanting to take his family away from him again being one of the main ones. This was his fault, and, he knew that. His attempts to keep the only real family he had safe was enough to seperate from his father, even though he knew exactly how powerful he was. Luckily the focus was where it was supposed to be, on Henry and Pan, rather then his father.
