in our secretest heart, it's our favourite part of the story. let's just admit we all want to make it too.
Neal Cassidy was born as Baelfire and is the only son of Rumpelstiltskin and Milah. After the death of his mother, Rumpelstiltskin did everything for his son. After finding out he would lose his son to the Ogre Wars drafting he decided to do something about it and set out to find the dagger of the one known as The Dark One. After Rumpelstiltskin became the Dark One, Baelfire became scared of what his father had become and came up with a plan to make both him and his father free from this land and after his father agreed to go if he found a way he seeked the help of the Blue Fairy who gave him a magic bean.
Baelfire found his father and told him that he had a solution and showed him the bean, Baelfire and Rumpelstiltskin headed up to a hill and Baelfire dropped the bean opening a portal, Baelfire was set to go, but, he saw that his father was having doubts about going through with it. Baelfire dragged his father to the portal and told him it was the only way to be together, when they were both standing over the portal, Bae was nearly through, but Rumpelstiltskin used his dagger to stop himself from going through. Bae was heartbroken that his father was backing out of their deal and Bae called him a coward as he fell through.
On the other side of the portal after a long trip to Neverland, and aging out of the foster system, he became Neal Cassidy, a janitor turned on the run thief who met and fell in love with a woman named Emma Swan, who he was set to settle down with, however, he left her so that she could fulfill her destiny as the Saviour. Unknown to him, he became the father of Henry Mills. Ultimately, however, Neal died when he traded in his own life to save his father's, wanting his son to know that he was a hero in the end.
After the breaking of Zelena's curse, Neal ended up waking up in the Forest of Storybrooke, the exact spot where he died with the mark on his hand somehow gone. Neal found himself covered in dirt, due to the whole being buried thing. Neal, just went with it and assumed it was some magic stuff again, something he disliked anyway. Neal was just glad to be back in Storybrooke to get the chance to reunite with Henry and Emma, and his father as well.
each happy ending's a brand new beginning let yourself be enchanted, you just might break through
One thing he knew was that family were the one thing that was supposed to always be there for you, something he hadn't had in years. His own flesh and blood parents weren't, and had abandoned him as soon as they got the chance. The Darlings and his Wonderland family were the only two that ever were and they weren't seperated because they hadn't wanted him, quite the opposite, they were seperated because of the one thing that destroyed his life from the beginning, magic. All these years as Neal Cassidy had allowed him to move past his feelings of not being wanted or important enough to his parents, but, now that his father was back in his life, and right there in his apartment he suddenly felt it coming to its full form again, the feeling growing inside him again. At least being out here with Henry, he could try to focus on other things right at this moment and push it back for a little bit more.
Neal moved his gaze towards Henry as he let out his chuckle at Henry's question. He knew that that may have seemed a bit weird as a first response to his question, but, it was just his instinct one. Although, it was also weird because he hadn't really laughed properly in years. There just hadn't been a lot to laugh about in his life. Neal knew and understood that he was curious as to how his parents met and was more then happy to tell Henry about him and Emma's first meeting and anything really. Since it was his father he didn't want to talk about, or even want here, not Emma. As he told him the truth, he awaited Henry's reaction to it. While it may not seem like the most traditional meeting, it was what happened with them and he wouldn't change it for a second.
Smiling at Henry's reaction, Neal turned to face him “Yeah, it's different. Not the most traditional meeting I'll admit.” Neal said, wondering what else Henry thought about it. Neal turned to face Henry as he asked his next question “Well, when your mother broke into the car, she didn't exactly see me. I was sleeping under a sheet and popped up not long after she drove off.” Neal changed his tone to a serious one at the next part of his comment “Oh it is a bad thing, but, given your mothers and my own situation we really didn't have much other choice.” Neal said, looking at Henry.
He knew that when he first popped up in that backseat, Emma was less then thrilled by seeing him and wasn't exactly smitten, but, after saving her, or rather both of them from that cop, it changed and she gave into his oh so obvious charm. Neal wanted the chance to get to know Henry properly and that would mean going to Storybrooke with them. The question is would he be invited? Neal would find a way to still get to know Henry, of course he didn't want him coming on a plane by himself, but, if that was how it had to be then it would be done. Nothing was going to stop him from being with his son in some way. They knew about each other now and not even different states would keep them apart from each other.
If it was his father asking, which he knew that he might end up doing, he would definitely not go. He would be going for Henry, not him. Neal would worry about all of that later, he just wanted the chance to get to know Henry as well as he could before it came up.
Neal knew that, while the three of them were together as they should've been from the start. There would now be someone else in the picture as well, his fiancee Tamara. This wouldn't be a problem, at least he hoped not, because he wanted them to get along well and at least be civil for their son's sake. The conversation turning to his mother made him feel the full extent of being abandoned, not only by his father, but, his mother too. “Yeah Henry, she did.” Neal, to this day, still couldn't understand why they gave him up. “With my father, everything starts with a deal” Neal said, staring out straight in front of him at the balcony.
Hearing what he had to say in response to his father, Neal sighed softly “That could be true, what I'm looking for is something I've been looking for since I was 14. You're right though he's still family. I promise I'll try Henry” Neal just didn't want to point out that it was because of his father that he had never really found it. Neal felt himself getting upset and angry, but, he tried to hold it together for the sake of Henry, it wasn't his fault. Neal turned towards Henry as he placed the reassuring hand on his shoulder and he smiled softly.
At Henry's next words, he couldn't help, but, see himself as he spoke them. “No, it's not Henry. I wondered the exact same thing with my father. He made up this story about what happened with my mum rather then telling me the truth, that she abandoned us, me. My father lied about so many things, but, that's the one thing I'm really frustrated about” Neal said, gently placing his hand on Henry's shoulder.
“I think we can arrange that” Neal said, chuckling softly at Henry's comment. “Oh I can pretty much guarantee it. Well, you may not get lost if we go together, I can be your own personal tour guide.” Neal smiled, glad that he had this option. While he had finally settled in New York, Neal would probably give it up for the chance to be with his son.
If Neal remembered his father right, he would soon enough barge in whether he wanted it or not. He wasn't one to stay out of business forever. He knew that, soon enough, he and Henry would have to go back inside his apartment and he would be forced to be in the same space as his father for the first time in years. This was his home, and now his father was here and he was refusing to leave. Neal had fulfilled Emma's deal and talked to him, but, it didn't really change any of the feelings of anger and pain he had inside him. “It wasn't pleasant no. Bouncing around more places then I can count, all because my parents didn't want me. Yeah, I am, and I'm sure the kids are too. Treated like they are something, rather then just another pay check or feeling of being a cash cow.” Neal said, more expressing the way he'd felt while in the system, but, he also knew that the kids probably did as well.
