The sea had an overwhelming sensation to it. Ever since she was a small girl, it was always a mysterious place, but home...nevertheless. There was no place in the water that she had yet to explore. Being an adult she had made choices that had angered quite a few people. Namely her father, King Triton or Poseidon as he was also known. She had always been slightly too adventurous for her own good. A smirk upon her lips as she rose to the surface. Taking a deep breath of fresh air, she liked coming up to the surface. On the surface, things were just as serene and peaceful as they had been under it. She had her cave, where she kept all of her thingamabobs. Her priceless treasures. Of course it wasn’t a simple act. She was avoiding certain things under the sea. Especially the wrath of the man she loved above all else. Her father.
Still no matter how she had lived her life, she had looked to her father for example. Just like she had her mother before her mother’s tragic death. They both had taught her certain principals....some of which made sense and some of which she still questioned. Still she had been sitting atop of one rock, a rock where she often found herself when she wanted some sun. Her sisters never dared sit on top of something like this. They said it was far too dangerous after what had happened to their mother. But no one dared speak of her now. Because just like her mother, music had been taken away from them too. And that, was a cruel fate as well.
She had been humming along with a tune that had been playing in her heart for as long as she could even remember when something or someone called to her. She didn’t understand it at first. Of course there were rumors even the sea couldn’t have prevented her from hearing. But before long she had jumped back into the sea. She quickly swam in a direction that she was being led to. She had been summoned. But by who? The next thing she knew she was following the lead towards none other than to an island. Who would be calling her from an island, and how? But someone had to be. The only question was, whether this was a friend or foe? She hesitated to rise from the sea. What if this was a trap? But it couldn’t be could it? There was no telling what was going on here. Her curiosity told her to follow her instincts. Let it happen and see where it would all lead.
Taking a small breath she rose from the surface. Only to see a pair of eyes shinning back at her own. She didn’t know what to think. Not at first. This person...this human....looked a little lost. She did not know whether to say anything or to just remain in the sea. Of course there was no telling what to expect. But she wasn't about to turn away. Not without knowing why she was brought here. She cleared her throat and spoke softly. She knew exactly what could happen if she let herself get too close to dry land. But she was still close enough to where she and this stranger could have a proper and civil conversation if so desired. "Hello?" She hoped it didn't sound too bad. After all she was just curious as to who or what this person wanted. As it wasn't often that she was summoned to a specific area. It was a tune that was as haunting as anything else.
The voice....that one heard from that shell, it had seemed desperate and longing. For someone. For her. "What's your name?" She asked just trying to diffuse what little tension there might be. Perhaps she was a foolish girl to think that this human wouldn't want to rip her to shreds. So she kept her fin completely hidden in the dark waters. As after all there was no point in endangering herself more than she probably already was. But this boy did not look to be more than maybe thirteen or fourteen years old. Just a couple years younger than herself if she had to guess. She thought about whether she should state her name but she would be hesitant about speaking more until the boy said something. He looked just about as lonely as she felt. Maybe that was in part why she felt drawn to want to talk to this boy. Instead of remaining hidden like her instincts told her to.

It had been so many countless years and Bae was still stuck on this stupid island of Neverland. Of course Bae didn't regret how he got here, he'd kept the Darlings safe and a family. And while he'd never regret that for even a day, Bae wondered whether he'd ever get the chance to have a new family of his own again.
The closest thing he had to a family was Tinkerbell, but, it wasn't really the same. While they cared about each other, Bae would never feel right or like his family was complete while he still had to hide from Pan and his lost boys while being with them. Besides, he would always be a lost boy, who was searching for family and home. And he knew neither of those things were here.
Bae had decided to wander the main parts of the island, he knew he had to collect both food and water before the Lost Boys showed up or Pan himself. He had already run away from the camp, if they caught him out here. They would drag him back there, and he'd never be free. Keeping his bow and arrows close by him, Bae took a walk and soon he ended up on the beach of Neverland.
Sitting down on the sand, Bae ran his hands through his hair, and adjusted his clothes until his hand stumbled upon the necklace around his neck. Bae was still unsure why he kept that, since it was from his father, and his father hadn't wanted him. If anything it was just a reminder of what he used to have and what he could've had. He just couldn't bring himself to part with it.
Lowering his hands, Bae found himself looking at some old shells and rocks lying on the ground not far from the shore line. Bae wasn't sure whether that was needed, but, one thing that he should get was some water while he was here. And so he pulled the satchel off of his shoulder, and filled up the canteen with water.
Taking a small sip, Bae let out a soft sigh of relief as it went down his throat. Bae sealed the canteen, and placed it back inside his satchel, before picking up a funny looking shell. He sat back down on the ground, and tried getting a closer look at it. He ran his hands over it, and placed it back down as he lay on his stomach on the sand, running his fingers along the edge of the water.
"Nothing, but, a lost boy huh? Nothing, but, a lonely little lost boy. That's what you are Bae. I wish I had someone to talk to." Bae said softly to himself. Although, he wasn't aware that he was saying that so close to the shell, or that anyone would hear him, or answer them. He was also unaware that he was about to be brought a friend or someone to talk to.
Seeing movement in the water just in front of him, Bae moved back slightly startled. His eyes stared in amazement as a woman rose to the surface. "Hi" Bae said, slightly nervous as she said hello to him as well.
As she asked his name, Bae moved himself forward slightly, still looking open mouthed. "Baelfire" Bae said, softly. "What, what's yours?" Bae asked, as he moved himself back towards the shore more where this woman had risen from. Was this someone answering his wish for someone to talk to? How did someone even hear it? Either way, he didn't want to risk his chance at a new friend. He could sense there was a loneliness inside her as well. He wondered if it was as big as his was.

Taken into account the sea had always had it's calling, she was comfortable in the decisions she had made which had led her here. There were times in which she missed her mother. Of the love she had once spread all throughout the sea, including her own little home of Atlantica. She missed her mother but it was easy to see. She was just like her mother, both in spirit and in her looks which was precisely why her father now paid her little mind. Her sisters were always her father's favorite. That much was easy to see, plus they were all older than her, and didn't have ridiculous notions of human trinkets. Her father always wanted those things destroyed.
The sea had always been a comforting place, albeit a little lonely. But she never had to worry about food or anything else. There was always plenty of things to eat even under the sea. But even with the family she had, she still felt lost and alone. Mostly because there was nothing she could talk to her sisters about that weren't boy related which seemed to be their favorite subject as of late. So she was happy to have at least something to do that was different. But at least when she was with Sebastian and Flounder, they could make things interesting.
The most common thing her and her sisters had in common was the love of music and hiding it from their father. Which was necessary as he had outlawed it right after her mother's tragic death at the hands of a pirate ship. She had always loved swimming but she often wanted to know what it was like walking, running. All the things that the humans could do. Perhaps in a certain way she would love to have the kind of life they had. To be free to make decisions for themselves instead of having it decided for them. She had perhaps only a memory of her mother to keep her spirit with her. As she was only a small girl when her mother was taken from her.
She was humming one of her mother's favorite songs when she had happened to go to the surface. Not really sure why it had attracted her to it all the sudden. But she loved the feel of the sun on her skin. Of the glow it held over the waters. There were times where she would just sit on a rock and relax letting the sun hit her face. Of course she had to be very alert. Because she did not want what happened to her mother to happen to her. She still couldn't get the memory of her mother's death out of her head or her heart. "Mine's Ariel. Nice to meet you Baelfire." She answered as sweetly but had a touch of elegance to the tone. She looked to him and then looked to the shell he had been holding. Understanding immediately what had happened. Although she still didn't understand why it worked the way it did, she did know of the legends of the shells and her kind. "You called for me....maybe unintentionally but you asked for someone to talk to, did you not?" She asked, although she didn't appear to be much older than he was.

There was something Bae found comforting about the sea, it was the one part of this island that was calming. And the one place where he could escape everything, and, just watch the waves and the sea itself. There were many times when he missed the Darlings, the people he sacrificed himself for to this island. The kindness they showed to a lost boy who just wanted food, especially Wendy. The first girl he'd ever really found pretty, and, felt awkward around. Seeing her, and her brothers and parents always brought a smile to his face. But, at the same time he also realised he missed his father, even though he didn't want to. Bae knew that he was nothing like his father, he wasn't dark-hearted and would never abandon his child for anything. In that sense, he wasn't like either of his parents, since it turns out his mother abandoned him too. It was this realisation that made him feel more lost and alone then he'd been in a long time. Bae knew that with Tink, he was able to at least have someone to care about him, and, give him a way to avoid both the Lost Boys, and, have something different to do on the island.
One thing that hadn't changed was his love of art, and his skill at it. Bae used that as an escape here, and, had his drawings hanging all around the cave he'd set up as his shelter. The main problem was hiding both of these things from Pan, the location of the cave, and, the drawings themselves. Showing that he still dreamed of places away from here. And also that he still had so much free will, which Pan always seemed to frown upon among his lost boys. Maybe it's why Bae didn't fit in here all that much. Because he knew he didn't want to stay here, even if there was a strange sense of belonging on it. This was an island for lost little boys and orphans. Bae had memories of both of his families. His papa, the Darlings, and even one or two memories of his mother as well. Even though he was still a young kid when she went off with Hook.
Keeping the shell in his hand, Bae glanced out to the sea, mouth open in awe as he saw something moving towards him. From first glance he saw the glow of a mermaid tail, and he found himself moving backwards slightly. Since usually all mermaids in these waters worked for Pan, and weren't friendly. Bae wasn't normally an untrusting person, but, his guard had been alot stronger recently. Ever since going from Hook's ship to this island. Bae had to have proof that he could trust anyone, and, he meant real proof, not just taking someone's word for it, because lately he'd seen that words meant nothing most times. Mainly because he didn't want to get hurt by anyone else he let in and trusted again. "Nice to meet you too Ariel." While the mermaid's tone was sweet, he wasn't quite sure he could trust her yet, and, that she was as sweet as she seemed. Noticing her gaze going from him to the shell in his hand, he followed it and raised his eyebrows slightly knowing that there must be something to this shell. His questions in his head must've been sensed by the mermaid Ariel, because he seemed to answer them for him. "I guess I must've unintentionally called you. Yeah, I did want someone to talk to. And you heard me because I was holding this shell?" Bae gestured to the shell, although he already knew the answer. He noticed that the mermaid didn't seem much older then he was.

Comforting things were always something she always clinged to, especially after the death of her mother. Escaping the world she had always known was something she yearned for, but knew that she could not. There was life that was different other than the one that she knew so fiercely from the sea. Still it wasn't that hard. Sebastian and Flounder both were doing what they had to do to convince her just how dangerous the humans were. She was grateful that she had escaped them for the moment as she knew how they would be petrified for her speaking to a human now. And they would alert her father. If there was anyone in the world she was afraid of making angry, it was the king of the sea himself. Her beloved father. A man who still scared her despite how old she was.
But she had free will something that her father often fought with her because of. The arts were something she always loved fiercely. Perhaps it was because of the fact that it was something that connected her to her beloved but lost mother. But there were rumors of these waters. Rumors of what was on this island. An island for lost little boys who wanted to belong but didn't anywhere else. The ones Pan had convinced belonged here. Very rarely were any of them seen from the main part of the island as Pan kept them increasingly close. Away from any nature in which could disrupt his brain washing as she had heard. But of course she had only heard his name. Never had met him personally. But that didn't matter. He didn't matter. All that mattered was a chance to be free. She knew that this boy had seen her fins, which could be dangerous but she had tried not to make it that big of a deal.
She knew how dangerous this conversation could be if Pan were to find them. But it was this fear of danger that kept her going. She could only patiently nod at the correct time. She knew she had answered quite a few questions but that also led to more. And that was not a bad thing if she had anything to say about such things. She took a deep breath as she figured she had to do something and quick. Instincts of course were in high gear as she faced the boy who was not much younger than herself. He seemed to be a bit younger than she was and that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. But he seemed to be almost as lost and alone as she had been. Perhaps they could become friends? Was that even possible? Either way it could be a bit dangerous.
She cleared her throat as she floated on the surface. "It's okay. Well now you have someone to talk to. And yes, that's how it works with the shell. I just happened to have been the one to respond to the call but more of my kind can actually hear it. It's not a bad thing unless you get someone you didn't exactly want to summon. I know more than you might think of these waters. Of who works for the man on the island. Pan they call him. Even for someone under the sea, there are rumors. Some of my kind....are more friendly to him than others. I am one of those who are not on his payroll if you can understand that." She smirked as she thought it was rather a clever remark because well Pan didn't pay anyone. Most who worked for him did so out of fear, nothing more nothing less.

The one thing Bae had always clung to was something that could allow him to get a comforting feeling, since his parents were no longer around, and, he had no-one else to help him with, or give him this. Escaping this island was one thing he'd wanted more then anything, but, it wasn't exactly an easy thing to do. On this island it was Pan's rules or nothing. Bae just knew that this island wasn't where it was supposed to end, and, where he was supposed to spend the rest of his life. He had kept his plans secret from everyone, since he knew that Pan had ears everywhere with his shadow or lost boys. Bae hadn't even told Tink, since he didn't want to risk her getting in trouble for knowing about his plans to leave the island. Having to be careful, since a leaf could fall and it would get back to Pan, and, he was someone who he really didn't want to make mad. Bae may have been living with the Dark One for about a year, but, he was still scared of that kid.
On this island having free will was something that was both rare and frowned upon, but, Bae had it, since he had been able to avoid the music of Pan's pipes. At least now it had, back in the Forest, he'd fallen under the spell of the pipes, and followed them. While at the beginning Bae had fallen under Pan's spell, it had broken once he had started to make one friend on this island. The trick to Pan's power was that the boys on this island like him, had to be convinced that they belonged with him on this island Neverland. So, having someone having his own free thoughts wasn't a happy or good thing. Bae made sure that when they weren't doing his dirty work around the island they stayed close by to him at the camp, since seeing more of the island, as Bae had, would break Pan's brainwashing spell.
If the word spread of this new visitor coming to the island then both of them would be in trouble. Bae would be punished severly and Ariel may end up having to work for Pan, unable to leave the island. Bae just wanted to be able to have a conversation with his new friend before that risk ever came up. At all of the mermaids answers, it only raised more questions with this young lost boy, who wanted to learn more about the worlds outside of this island. Keeping the shell in his hand, Bae wondered whether this could lead to a new friend, and, deep down he wondered if he could contact sea creatures who were back on the Enchanted Forest, and, find out whether his papa would come for him if he told the sea creatures to tell him that. He doubted it, since he hadn't seemed to care over that portal. Right now, he'd just focus on the sea creature that the shell had currently called. Even if it was risky, Bae wasn't going to ruin the chance at a new friend.
Bae smiled softly at Ariel as he heard her start to answer his question "Well, I'm glad that it did. This shell has given me that. Well, I'm glad I got a kind mermaid rather then one of those evil ones that lurk these waters. But, I may keep the whole other sea creatures thing knowledge for later. You never know on this island I may need it. They're not rumours, there are some very bad mermaids that happen to work for Pan. Yeah, I understand that, you're like me. Someone who's not under his brainwashing spell." Bae sighed softly, as he rested his chin on his arms, leaving them lying on the sand as he looked at Ariel.

Comfortable. There were no words to describe how that word made her feel. It wasn't ever a comfortable circumstance. Not since her mother had passed away a few years ago. Still hope was the one thing that hadn't faded no matter how much others tried to make it so. Escaping the rules was always a fun thing, though she knew she was in for a lecture upon her return to Atlantica. Especially if Flounder or Sebastian saw her. More so Sebastian because the male seemed to think that she was always going to cause trouble for the home she loved so much. And her father had consensus to believe him. Still being in the sea was having both the upside of having free will and a chance to explore. To see the world. Albeit she wanted to see more of it. There was very little that she was truly scared of after having watched as her mother had tragically been killed.
The memories were the only thing keeping her mother's spirit alive. As otherwise she would have faded away just like everything else in the sea did. Music was one of the things she loved best about her mother. Of hearing her mother singing. Of her and her sisters joining in where possible. But music like everything else her mother loved, had been banned after her death. Because it hurt her father too much to allow. Even though she didn't let it end there. She fought his rules about music, because she believed that it wasn't what her mother wanted. But getting out of that train of thought wasn't always easy. Looking back over to Baelfire she knew that it was going to be a long complicated road. She wanted to just stay and chat, but she also knew the reputation for the one that controlled Neverland. Peter Pan. Most would think the name would be a happy thought kind of ordeal. But in reality he was as cold and manipulating as one could get. She'd heard the rumors even if she'd never dealt with him first hand. Not that she wanted to. She could see Bae keeping the shell in his hand.
She could also sense that he was thinking of other ideas at the moment. As after all she was used to being around Flounder and Sebastian, both of which were just as crafty as Bae seemed to be. Yes there was always risks involved when it came to the shell and what it represented, that much she knew. Still she enjoyed talking to him and didn't want it to be interrupted. "Me too. You can summon me at any time with that thing. I'll come as soon as I hear it. Others might as well. Some have the capacity, and the strength to ignore it's call. You might need it, actually. Just be careful with that sort of information. If Pan knows, if he doesn't already....it'll be dangerous for us both. I know there's plenty who work for him. All of which aren't related to me, thankfully. I'm not brainwashed by any means. It'd take a lot more than his appeal to make me believe a word he has to say. And believe me I've heard it all." She explained, while a soft expression took the place of the smile from earlier.

Comfortable. There wasn't much around that allowed Bae to feel that way anymore. He hadn't been in comfortable situations a lot. Instead of comfort, most places just caused him pain. Especially with the combination between his father abandoning him, and, then everything that happened on Hook's ship, learning that his mother hadn't wanted him either, and, the betrayal he felt from Hook when he learnt about all of his lies. Bae also didn't have a lot of hope either, that was slowly fading, and, everytime he fell asleep with that nightmare coming to his head, he still held onto the hope of his papa coming to find him when the dreams of his father coming filled his head, before he awoken and remembered the truth. His life had been full of a mix of both a lot of rules, and, no rules. In the workhouses, the rules were something that had to be followed and there were a lot of them. Here on this island, there were a lot less rules which he wasn't sure how he felt about right now. There was a lot of this island to explore, a lot more then most of the Lost Boys thought of, because they didn't wander far enough away from Pan's watchful eye.
Since coming to this island, all he had were his memories and they weren't all good. The main memory that haunted him was when Bae had literally watched his father let his hand go, when he chose to hold onto that dagger instead of his hand. The images of the Darlings, both John, Michael and most of all Wendy, and, then Mr. and Mrs. Darling. Their friendly faces when he had awoken from his nightmare, and, feeling their comforting touch around him as he cuddled up in their arms as they waited with him until he fell back asleep. Bae didn't get a lot of that here, instead he was the one comforting most of the lost boys from their nightmares, or waking up alone in his cave having no-one there to make him feel better. Bae fought against Pan's rules of this island and the way things should be run, he'd rather just be free. Bae smiled softly at his new friend, wanting to just have her stay here and chat with him. But, Neverland had one problem with that. Its leader Peter Pan. If he learnt of a mermaid who wasn't doing his dirty work on this island, then he would either send them away or put them under his spell. Bae was glad that Ariel hadn't met Pan yet, it meant she was free to live her own life of freedom. He still felt the shell in his hand, as he ran his fingers over it.
Bae was still confused by the whole concept of the shell that she had told him about, but, he had to admit he liked the sound of it. A possible combination of new friends, but, also new enemies depending on who it called. He just wasn't sure whether he wanted to risk the enemies part. Right now, he would continue to talk to the friend that the shell had called. “Well, I really hope it'll be you that comes when I call it. I like talking to you. Well, if it calls anyone else, I hope they won't be mean or trying to take me back to Pan for him. I promise I'll be careful. I'm ok with keeping secrets, especially if it keeps other people safe as well as me. It's always dangerous when Pan's involved. I'm not brainwashed either thank god, it means I still get to be my own person on some level. Yeah, I don't believe him much either, it takes a lot for me to believe anyone anymore. I've heard so much as well, and, none of it was believeable.” Bae said, smiling softly at Ariel.

While comforts were hard to find, the mermaid was perfectly content in knowing she was making the right choices, even at the most inopportune time. Losing hope was one of the few things she could not allow. Hope was what had kept her alive, even when things had seemed the most bleak. Pain sometimes did tend to happen. There was a way to condemn what had happened and to move forward. No one could save her, not when her heart was torn into a thousand different pieces. She was torn between what was right and what was easy.
The dreams she had still existed, of finding a way to spare what was. Even in the midst of it all, she was doing what made sense. Her heart ached to even help. Knowing sometimes helping was just to remain in silence. That was what her sisters would have said. Her life in the sea was so much different than the life he had aboard the ship, though it didn't mean they were any better or worse. She didn't know what to make of herself. Sometimes she feared that being too different might mean she was hated, or bad. Her father wasn't the most friendly when she spoke of her trinkets or the humans in which she wished to learn of. Even her sisters had pushed that part of her down, wishing for it to be almost non existent. She looked at that shell he held, that had called her and hoped he could keep it hidden especially from those who would seek her and others harmed. As she could only do so much in the sea.
Fighting to be herself that was always something she had to do. There were always prisons, some were literal some were figurative. And in this case she was a captive of the sea. Of wanting to do more than swim for the next century. She was a fighter and while she had heard of Pan, she was not willing to believe in his cause. Part of the reason why she had stayed as open minded as she was. Many of her own kind swam to these waters and were entrapped by his cause. A cause that was not worth fighting for. There weren't many she had come to know under the sea who were her enemies. "I'm pretty sure if you called my name into it, if I'm in close proximity I'd be able to hear it. My people, anyone who is friends with my father.....they might not be so keen on helping but they won't hurt. They'd keep their distance. My sisters as well. I would rather keep them out of this if I could, not because I don't trust you but I don't trust what Pan could do to them. Force them to be his slaves no doubt. Work endless raids, all for nothing, all lost. Most people I knew--above ground of course, that's few. Most would rather catch me and kill me. Than to believe that I'm similar but different to them. My life, belongs to the sea. And I do what I can to protect it, no matter the cost. Even if I'd rather be anywhere but the sea some of the time!" She loved the sea, and her family but she often wanted to know what it was like above ground. To know how to walk, and dance, and just have fun!

Comfort was something that Bae didn't know much about, especially on this island where he has to spend most of his time running away. Although, he was sure about one thing. That he didn't regret that night with the Darlings, sacrificing himself to keep them safe. Bae knew that hope was a good thing, but, it was also something he was starting to lose. His life had been full of pain, and, he hoped that the time for pain was slowly disappearing. Especially since his heart was already torn into quite a few different directions, while so many lots of shattered pieces inside. He had already been fragile after that moment over the portal, but, after saying goodbye to the Darlings, and, Hook's betrayal. It had just broken more.
Bae wasn't much of a dreamer, well, actually that wasn't true. But, everything he'd ever dreamed about had never been what he got. So he had his doubts about whether he should even dream at all. His heart ached everytime something came into his head of things he knew wouldn't happen. Especially about his father coming to rescue him, but, he left him behind. They had both had experiences when it came to the sea, but, they were probably completely different. He had lived his above shore on the Jolly Roger, while this mermaid Ariel had lived hers at the bottom of the sea, or at least under it. But, he wasn't sure which one of these experiences were better. Bae felt like, and, knew that he was different from the others on this island. It wasn't necessarily a good thing when it came to the inhabitants of the island. They shunned him most of the time because of his refusal to be loyal to Pan like the rest of the lost boys. Glancing back down at the shell, knowing he would have to keep it hidden from the others on this island. He knew this island, and, that his eyes and ears may have already known about it, but, he would find a way to keep it hidden. So that no-one could corrupt this sweet mermaid or her sisters to do his dirty work on this island.
He was always going to be himself, no matter what the others thought. Bae would stay the person he had been before this island, and, no-one on this island could ever be able to change that. There were prisons on this island, in both a physical and figurative sense. The island as a whole was a prison in itself. Bae spent every day on this island, fighting against the music of Pan's pipes and the temptation of the people attempting to corrupt him. He had been successful so far, but, there was only so much fighting he could do. Bae would always be open minded, he didn't believe in Pan's cause and didn't want to help him. And never would. “I'll keep that in mind. I can see that being possible. I promise you I'll keep your sisters away from this island, or make sure that it's me talking to them, so that I can make sure that Pan or his lost boys don't find them. Well, I'm not one of the ones who wants to do that, trust me. I know that feeling, like the people on this island. I'm similar to them in the sense that I'm a lost boy, but, different because I'm my own person and have my own mind. I'm not sure where my life belongs right now, but, once I figure it out. I will find a way to protect it, as much as you protect the sea.” Bae didn't know where he exactly belonged, he didn't really properly belong on this island, but, he just wanted to know what other places were like. Running his hand over the crystal around his neck, it made him remember what belonging felt like. And he wanted it again some day.
