When he woke up in his apartment a couple of days ago, he never expected so much of his past to catch up with him all at once and more surprises then he was expecting. First seeing Emma come back into his life and then learning that his father had found him and, not only that, but Emma brought him to him and then heading back to his apartment to not only face his father for the first time in years, but, meet the son he never knew anything about.
Just when he thought all the surprises and parts of his past were done, he is greeted in his apartment by none other then Captain Hook as he finally got revenge on his father stabbing him with that stuff, Dreamshade from the island of Neverland. This is what led to this moment and the situation they were in now. They were sailing back to this town of Storybrooke to save his father, in a ship Neal hadn't set foot on in years. The Jolly Roger.
Despite everything that happened with Hook all those years ago, and learning he was being used from the beginning as a way to find his key to finally getting revenge on and killing his father, Hook had taught him some pretty useful stuff, the sailing, pirate navigation with the stars and his thieving lifestyle. It was some of these things that helped him get off of Neverland with that star map he made using the stars to do so and then the pick-pocket and thieving skills helped him survive after that.
After making sure everyone was on board, Emma, his father, Henry and himself, he set himself behind the wheel of the Jolly Roger and looked around the boat and saw Henry on one side of the boat and Emma on the other side looking at him. Neal wasn't sure he'd butt in, since it was the same situation with he and his father, even if the circumstances were different. Emma was as determined to fix things with Henry as his father was to fix things with him, the chances of Henry and Emma's relationship being fixed were better then the chances of him forgiving his father.
Neal was admittedly sad that his father was on the verge of dying, that he may never see him again, which is what he'd wanted for years, but, for some reason it was affecting him more then he thought. Neal shook those thoughts out of his head, no, he didn't get to do that to him. Neal leant against the railing and smiled as he looked at his son, before pulling off the wheel and making his way over to him.
"Hey Henry, how you doing?" Neal asked, as he stood there next to him, placing his hands in his jacket pockets. Neal looked around and smiled at Emma before turning back to face Henry. Neal had an idea for how to take his son's mind off of everything that happened with Emma, and it may take his mind off of what's happening with his father at the moment as well. Besides, he wanted to teach Henry something that he knew as soon as he could, since he was his father. If anything went wrong, Neal could always take over anyway. "So, do you want to help me sail this thing back?" Neal asked, looking down at his son before focusing back on the wheel, knowing they should take off soon.@henry

Eleven years it took to meet his father. What should be a happy time for Henry was tainted by Emma's lie. He still couldn't believe she did that. Wanting to push that to back burner so much had happen in his world the past few days. He had a cinnamon bun the size of his head , Met his father and got another gramps. Rumple was stabbed by dirty pirate and now they were the Jolly Roger ! From Peter Pan it took all of the boy's will power not to spaz out and run about the ship looking everything. Hey Henry, how you doing? the question brought Henry out of his thoughts mirroring Neal in stance . Wondering if his hoodie was still on the back of the door at Regina's house. Noticing Neal had one maybe he should they already share a fondness for scarves. I'm great is this like the Jolly Roger as in Peter Pan? Because this is amazing! since they took it from Hook did this mean by maritime law the boat was theirs? If so would this fit in the back yard? Puckering his lips together as he thought out all the possibilities . "So, do you want to help me sail this thing back? slowly Henry turned his head about to stare at his father mouth fell open eyes went wide. you know how to sail a boat? mouth opening and closing this was the best day ever! YES ! I mean sure that sound like fun . next time sword fighting sailing boat and swords . Henry would lose his mind if that would ever happen what do I need to do?Neal Cassidy

Neal looked down at Henry and smiled as he seemed to mock his stance, the two of them really did look like father and son in this moment. They seemed to both have a thing for scarves, although, Henry's reasons may be different to Neal's as to why he wore them so much. Neal's were mainly to cover up the marks and scars on his neck most of the time from his time in the workhouses and the foster system.
Hearing his mention of Peter Pan made him frown slightly, he hated that kid, but, Henry was right. “Yeah, as in Peter Pan. I thought the same thing once when I was first on here” Neal said, smiling at him. Neal knew that Hook would eventually come and get his ship back, he was a pirate after all, but, right now, they just had to get his father back to Storybrooke. He was surprised that he was reacting in this way to finding out his father was dying, and why he was trying to save him. At Henry's reaction to his question about wanting to help him sail, he couldn't help, but, chuckle.
Nodding softly, he looked at Henry “Yeah, I do. It's kind of a long story there.” Neal said, knowing that his experience on this ship was a long and painful story on his part. Neal smiled and looked at Henry “Oh it is” Neal said, not lying about this part. It was the navigating that was a bitch. All that math and lining the stars up right. “Well, first thing. Come with me to the wheel.” Neal said, placing his arm around Henry's shoulders and led him towards the wheel. @henry

Neal thought like him as well? Barely containing his excitement even Emma when they were on good terms never thought like him. This could have ment if Neal had been there all along with Emma surely Henry could have convinced his father that the curse real. Which meant another person believing him all long. Briskly making his way toward Neal ,Henry smiled up practically bouncing with joy . This was happening they are sailing a pirate ship! Big brown eyes darted about the stern glancing to see what he should do. Sucking in the side of his cheek Henry felt he should say something about Mr. Gold um dad? I am sorry about your dad. I'm sure once we all get back to Storybrooke he will be fine . if he was in the same situation that's what he would want to hear . Henry tilt his head squinting as the sun blinded him a little. we do have a little while if you want to tell me you can . I love stories leaning back and fro on his heels and then toes of his shoes. I've been told I'm a good listener.Neal Cassidy

Neal was glad that Henry seemed to think like he did and used to, a long time ago. If the three of them had been a family, he was sure that Henry would've tried to convince him of the curse. The fact that he had never lost his Baelfire memories probably would've made it easier, it was the reason that he let Emma go in the first place.
Looking down at Henry, he smiled softly as he saw him excitedly walking with him. Neal kept his hand on Henry's shoulder and glanced out at the sea of New York, thinking about the last time he was at a sea on this ship. At Henry's attempt to comfort him, he smiled softly “Thank you Henry. Oh, I'm sure he will be, if there's one thing my father knows how to do it's survive.” Neal said, remembering what his father used to do back when he was a kid, he would always do whatever he could or had to. Hearing Henry saying that he could tell him the story, he let out a small smile “I may tell you on the way. We need to get going” Neal said, ruffling his hair. “Before we take off, there's a few things you need to know. Hang on, let me...” Neal paused and looked around, waiting to see if it was still there. “Yes, it's still here.” Neal said, as he ran his hand over the P and S that Hook scraped into it to show him the directions all those years ago. @henry

Standing on his tip toes staring at what Neal had found. It seemed that someone had scratched a P and a S? Curiously henry stared back up to his dad wondering what this was? It must have been important to someone long ago. But then why mark it out? A tiny hand traced over the indented scratch mark. so someone wanted to ps a secret huh? what did this have to with sailing? Quickly the boy cleared his mind of the mysterious p and s . Grabbing the helmsman by the knobs. Henry playfully jerked at it like captain Jack Sparrow . Man he wished that his class mates could see dreaded pirate Mills. Oh that had nice ring no doubt that Emma or Regina would make that dream go up in smoke. When the jerking was done Henry paused for moment or two. Rumple , may be survivor but that's doesn't mean that it wouldn't mean the world to him if you talked him. from the talk that Rumple and him . His grandfather wanted to make amends this this being stabbed by Hook could be the trick to fix them . why did hook stab rumple ? he mumbled his question beneath his breath. Not sure if his dad knew the reason or not. Neal Cassidy

Neal watched as Henry followed his gaze wondering what he was looking at, he knew that it may have seemed strange, but, it was back from his pirate life here. Neal placed his hand gently on Henry's as he traced them over and he looked down at Henry and shook his head “No, it's nothing like that. It wasn't a secret, more like a guide type of thing” Neal said, smiling softly.
'Want to try your hand at the helm?' 'I know nothing of sailing' 'Oh, once you get your bearings it's as easy as pie' 'Now the left side is called port and the right side is called starboard. Now go two notches to port.' 'Well done mate, you were born with the sea in your blood' 'Thanks'
Shaking himself out of his memories, he moved his hand off of the P and the S and focused his attention back on Henry. Neal smiled and looked out to sea, before glancing back to where his father was. “I know Henry. We'll see what happens when we get back to Storybrooke” Neal said, sighing sadly. He wanted to talk to his father, but, he didn't want himself getting hurt by him again. At Henry's question, he looked down at him and shook his head gently “It's something he's wanted to do for a long time.” Neal focused down on Henry and then stared out to the sea in front of him.
'No, stay back. You used me, you wanted to kill my father' 'Yes, I did.' ... 'You can stay here under my protection' 'I'd rather fend for myself then be with you. I want off this ship pirate.' ... 'Thank you Bae for reminding me what I'm all about. Killing your father.' 'You're not letting me go.' 'How would that help me?' 'You hated my father so much, you didn't even realise you were just like him.'
Neal blinked and turned himself back towards Henry again, “Alright, let's not focus on that now” Neal said, smiling softly and then looking at him “So that we can take off, let me tell you what P and S actually means” Neal said, keeping his hand on the wheel and gesturing to where they were scratched in. “The left side here is called port, hence the P. And the right side here is called starboard hence the S.” Neal said, pointing them out and turning towards Henry, smiling softly. “Get it?" @henry

Frowning thinking about what Neal had just said . Hook had wanted to stab Rumpelstiltskin for so long. Why Henry thought why would he do that? As far Henry Hook had issues with Peter Pan for cutting his hand off. What had his grandfather done to the pirate to make him want to stab Rumple? Returning to what his father was saying port left side , glancing in that direction. Then toward starboard which was on the right. so are there names for the front and back of the ship? Henry was bouncing with excitement if school was like this he would have gone a lot more. It wasn't that he hated school but its was all false how many times can a kid learn how to make a bird house ? The answer is to many so it seemed only logical that he would skip , and break into the library before Emma came. Grimacing at himself when Emma's name popped up again. Henry wanted and needed something else to think of other the. His own mom at that moment. That's when it dawn on him no had mention Neal's mom. Gripping the knobs of the wheel so if your dad is in Storybrooke does that mean your mom is to? Neal Cassidy

Neal hoped that Henry wouldn't have asked about his response to his question, he didn't feel like explaining all of that. He vaguely remembered overhearing Hook call his father 'crocodile', whatever that meant. Neal didn't want to give Henry the nightmares that he had after finding out exactly what happened with Hook and both of his parents.
Watching Henry's glance going to left and right as he told him what the P & S stood for, he smiled. There was so much of him inside his son that it made him proud to see this. “Actually there are. The front, where we're standing is called the bow and the back of the boat where your mother is standing is called the stern.” Neal said. He didn't understand it much, but, he remembered exactly what Hook taught him. Compared to the lessons he'd been taught at school while in the foster system, it was definitely a different teaching style. Of course, since he was in the foster system he never really went all that much anyway.
As Henry asked him about his mother, he lowered his head and rested his elbows on the wheel as he remembered what happened to her, as told to him by Hook.
'I found this on your desk. It's, it's my mother. How'd you get it?' 'Bae' 'How? You're the pirate that killed her' 'I didn't kill your mother, we fell in love and we ran off together. Your father lied to you, he was too much of a coward to tell you the truth. He tore her heart out and crushed it in front of me'
Neal looked up and turned to face Henry before shaking his head “I doubt that Henry. She's dead.” Neal said, as he ran his hands over the wheel and looked up at the sky. @henry

Henry frowned when he looked up at his father. It seemed that his question had caused him pain. Feeling a bit awkward now , Henry shuffled his feet some on the wooden planks of the deck. Ducking his head not even a whole day he had already failed miserably at having dad. Whatever that was haunting Neal seemed to fade when he told Henry about the bow and the stern. This was all really exciting for the boy. Once back at Storybrooke a determination to look up more about pirate ship. is there a way for us make a wave to splash the back. glaring back toward his mom , it would be funny if they could. Slight squinting of eye at his mom. But when Neal said his own mother was dead Henry jerk his head about to look back at his dad. A feeling of guilt over came the boy. Frowning Henry let go of the wheel and hugged his father. Wanting to show some support for his new family member. Knowing that he couldn't take the pain away but he could try to least fill the void that was left behind. Finally when Henry felt the hug was enough he released Neal and took the wheel back into his grip. Neal Cassidy
