[INSIDE]
who you really are...
Personality: Even though some would simply consider him to be mad, others would surely describe him as an ambitious man, full of ambiguous feelings towards the entire worlds he knows about. Having been betrayed in all of them has made him bitter, but nevertheless, Jefferson is still able and willing to let love enter his life, because he dedicates his life to his daughter Grace whom he loves dearly.
Also, because of this true love, he is accepting everything that comes his way in order to make his daughter’s life a better one. This not only makes him prepared to take any risk, it also makes him vulnerable and bitter; because no matter in whatever world he is or whatever path he decides to take, he seems trapped.
Likes: Taking long walks through nature, designing fashion and enjoying interior design, as well as spending time with his daughter Grace.
Dislikes: Working with Regina, despises that he is good at using dark magic and that he enjoys it – even though he knows it does no good
Strengths: Ambitious man who is used to hard working; whether it be as a designer, as an honest worker in the forest or as a caring father
Weaknesses: His beloved daughter; there’s no one and nothing else he cares more about
History:
The sky had turned dark and rain had started pouring down when he was first told what had happened to him in his early years. As a toddler of about two years of age, he was given to an orphanage where they would take care of him, love him as much as they could and show him what the world had on offer – everything. He enjoyed playing with the other children, loved to laugh and needed to explore the forest, because there was nothing more beautiful to him than nature.
When he was about ten years old, he went into the forest, enjoying a sunny and warm day when out of the blue, it seemed, a man walked up behind him. Jefferson was not able to see clearly as he was blinded by the light surrounding this man. As he screened his eyes with his hands, the man began talking and he appeared to be an honest and lovely man. Time passed by slowly on that day and as the man went on talking they both realized that this man knew his parents; the same people that had once decided not to keep Jefferson. Even though Jefferson did not feel angry, he felt sad and wanted to know why they had decided against him. The man told him that they had clearly not wanted him, but he concluded that there was so much more in the world and he suggested to start being creative; because by drawing, making things out of wood, sewing and everything else the world could be put into colours only Jefferson could decide on. And maybe – the man said – there could even be something magical in creativity.
Jefferson, being sad about the story he had just heard, liked the thought about being creative, because maybe this would fill the empty part his parents had left and he started what he was being told. He loved drawing, making things out of wood, sewing and everything else creative.
At the age of thirteen, Jefferson created several customs for one of the plays that was going to take place at the orphanage and everyone was invited to look at the little kids playing their roles, enjoying their lives, even though none was being applauded by their parents. While the play had started, Jefferson was behind the curtain, still sewing here and there, doing everything what still needed to be done. One last stitch and there it was – the first hat he had ever created. A black and huge hat, waiting for him to try him on and when he did, it tore his whole life apart. Within seconds and months – till this day he cannot tell – Jefferson was pulled into a black mass that seemed to consume him and he felt it, loved it and hated it.
Wonderland it was called and it looked lovely, more so than it was. After all, Jefferson longed to go back to his world, because he didn’t grow fond of this superficiality and arrogance that was part of this big, loud and colourful country. He soon learned that his hat was both; entrance and exit to a land he would not like to go back to and when he went back, he put his hat somewhere where it couldn’t be found and where he didn’t need to look at it and started working in the forest, because creativity obviously had its price.
At the age of twenty, he got to know a lovely young lady he immediately fell in love with, wed her and had a lovely baby girl with her. Due to her mother’s beauty and kindness, Jefferson named his baby girl Grace. Never had he seen such a beautiful, little creature and never would his wife see one more as she was soon to die after she had brought some things into the city and got killed in an accident that he still doesn’t understand.
From this day on, Jefferson decided to be part of his daughter’s life – no matter what. He would never leave her and he would always be there for her; he didn’t want to make the same mistakes his parents did.
A couple of years later, Jefferson is confronted with Regina, helps her and is not only trapped in Wonderland – where he doesn’t feel like he belongs – but is separated from his love Grace.
A couple of curses later, Jefferson is trapped into Storybrooke, separated again from his love Grace and needs Regina, it seems. Or that blonde new Sheriff who got the clock ticking again – tic tac.
