History:
Life is like an intricate blanket of weaving's. Each encounter you make, every decision and thought and action adds more to it's already beautiful and complex design. But what happens to that blanket once a life is abruptly cut short and it's tassels dangle lifeless over the edge of oblivion? Simple really, fate finds away to continue it's path by finding a new life with the same soul. Point in case, Miss Mina Harker. Many many years ago, in a world devoid of color, Mina was known as Mirena Tepes, the beloved wife of Vlad Tepes. Unlike other royal families who married for wealth or titles or to tie alliances, Mirena and Vlad truly and deeply loved each other. There was no better definition of soul mates then the two of them. But though they loved each other, that did not ease the burden of ruling a kingdom under the shadow of a power hungry and ruthless sultan. Mirena knew her husband's history, the hardships he went through and blood that stained his hands all thanks to the Sultan's father who had taken him as prisoner of war so many years ago and now planned to do the same with her own son.
Mirena knew all too well that her husband was torn. To reject the Sultan would mean declaring war and to accept would engage her own wrath upon him. To Mirena there was nothing more important or sacred than her family. If she had to wield a sword and shield herself she would blaze into battle to protect her family. Vlad too knew this, but it did not make his decision any easier. He was a warrior, but unlike the savage under the Sultan's rule he had honor. That honor won him the loyalty of his men who would die for their king at a moments notice. And it was with this knowledge, that he denied the Sultan and killed the messengers sent to collect her child. War was declared, battle lines drawn and a decision that would change the course of her life and that of their people had been made.
Her beloved was turned into a monster. A creature who lived off of the blood of other's. Long had the tales been told of such a thing but never had one been seen. Except in storybooks and ancient depictions. And though she knew she should fear him, Mirena could seen nothing but her husband. He had done what others were too fearful to do. He was willing to sell his soul to protect his kingdom and his family. She could never fear him for that. But with all power comes a cost. Their kingdom moved to a place they thought was safe. But how wrong they were. So very wrong. The sultan's men managed to gain entry, and while Vlad fought in the battle below, Mirena was charged with protecting their son. Atop the tallest tower, Mirena and her son stood every vigil as the men stalked towards them. She had no sword, no weapon or power like her husband, and the soldiers made quick work of her. A swift punch to the stomach sent Mirena crashing down to the ground dazed, a shove from the man's boot sent her toppling over the edge of the tower. It was not the fear of dying that scared Mirena the most. It was the desperation in her child's voice, knowing she had failed to save him. Knowing that she was too weak to save him. Too weak to hold on. The stones beneath her fingers slipped from her grip and the painful sensation of falling over took her. This was her end, this was how she would die. Never in all her years would she believe such a thing. She could see Vlad's dark form falling after her. Her husband. Her beloved. She could still help him, she could still save her son.
She felt his arms wrap around her a moment too late, her body collided with the rocks below. Her life was slipping away. She could feel death's cold touch gripping at her soul. The dawn was upon them, and with it's first light Vlad's powers would be taken from him and his ability to save their son. Her life was lost, but their sons was not. She could still save him. So it was with a heavy heart she begged her husband to drink her blood. Saddened was she to leave her family behind but with this last sacrifice she would give her husband strength. As her life faded away, Mirena swore when she was reborn that she would be stronger, never again would she allow anyone to steal her happiness or her family from her. Not without all hell breaking lose.
As thus her intricate blanket of life was cut short but the gods are not so cruel to leave such a masterpiece unfinished. A love broken by time and a curse. So Mirena was reborn into a new world with new powers, but the same soul that shined like a thousand suns lied within her. Gone was she from the World Without Color and now reborn in the Enchanted Forest and given the name Mina Harker. Unlike her old life, she was not a queen or royalty by any means, she was given a humble life, but with this life so too did it come with a gift. The gift of magic. Powerful and strong that grew more and more everyday. Her new mother was a light witch, specializing on herbal remedies and healing magic, her father however, practiced the darker arts and it wasn't until his wife died at the hands of the local villagers that he decided to teach his daughter his art. He told her it was because she needed to know both, but part of Mina knew it was because he wanted her to see that both sides had their uses. Dark magic gave her a new view on life and death and everything in between and her healing magic kept her from being completely corrupted.
She had a normal life, as any person could in the Enchanted Forest. But it always felt as if something were missing. Something deep within her soul that made her feel incomplete. It only grew stronger as she grew into a beautiful young woman. She never courted anyone, for none seemed to meet her tastes for those brave enough to approach her were often cruel and power hungry men. They either wanted her for her power or her beauty. None even took the time to know her. So eventually, after her father's death, she left the village she had called home her entire life and fled to a small cottage at the base of the mountains if only to escape. It was there she found her serenity, she was able to practice her craft in peace. It wasn't grand, or impressive but it was hers. The only thing she found odd was the strange pulling sensation she got whenever she looked at the mountain at night. It was almost like a call to her soul and at night as she slept, she dreamed of climbing it's massive path towards the top. What could be up there that would call to her so? She wasn't sure. But eventually the pull was so strong that Mina found herself climbing and as she drew nearer, her pace quickened. Higher and higher, towards the clouds and the chilly air. Up and up she climbed until she came to the overlook. An eery cave lay before her, massive and imposing and dark. But she didn't fear it. Her soul hummed at it's presence, familiar and warm yet she knew not where she felt it before.
As she took her first steps forward, her hand resting on the outside of it dripping walls, Mina felt a pulse race through her, but this time it was not familiar and warm, this time it screamed danger. Turning back to the overlook, she stood at the edge and stared at the massive cloud of magic barreled towards her. She could have summoned a barrier to protect herself, but even she knew eventually it would break and the cloud would engulf her. So Mina stood firm, embracing whatever would come from the cloud of magic. But as it drew near, she felt a tingling in her soul, glancing over her shoulder she stared into the darkness of the cave as if something was staring back at her. And as the cloud engulfed her, she could see a silhouette coming closer to the entrance and for some strange reason, Mina could only smile.
In Storybrooke, Mina lived a rather easy going life, running the local apothecary for home made remedies and tonics and lived in a small cottage outside the town. She had many friends, but like in the Enchanted Forest, often felt as if a part of her was missing it was made even more confusing once the curse was broken and the memories of her life in the Enchanted Forest came back, as well as a few very confusing and complex dreams of a former past life.
