David was well aware of not being the only fatherly figure for Henry anymore. Something he was glad for but at the same time missing it. He’d never had the chance to be a father to a teenager that was growing up and with Henry it felt less like a burden. Neal had taken over the part by appearing back in his daughter’s life and with that also in Henry’s. For the boy it was a lot to take in, but there wasn’t one second where you would notice that. Every chance he got he was with Neal, spending as much time with him as possible while he ignored the attempts of Emma wanting to make up for something. David didn’t know one single thing about this Neal, only the things that his daughter had told him. What he had done to her. It partly has made her to the person she was now and David wanted to know what was going through that guys mind when he left her, just like she didn’t mean anything. Pregnant, alone and locked up. No better way on getting to know which kind of person you were dealing with than to look him up and ask him. Snow didn’t had to know this, neither did Emma. This was something between him and Neal. If that guy was planning on hurting his daughter again, then he was thinking wrong. David was not going to let that happen once more, he would make sure of that. The chiming sound of a little bell at the entrance of Granny’s diner betrayed his arrival, making several people look up, being curious on who might had entered. David gave them all a little nod before his eyes met Neal’s. There he was… the guy that abandoned his daughter and ran away like a coward. It only took a few determined steps for David to arrive at the table where Neal was sitting. “Hey, would you mind if I join you?”Neal Cassidy

A Talk Between Men Neal wasn't sure how to feel about everything that happened in New York, he discovered he was a father and reunited with his own, along with Emma. Now here he was in a new place, yet again. Just like every other time he'd gotten settled somewhere. At least this time he wasn't alone in it though.
When he got into this town, he had met Emma's father Prince Charming and he realised that, he was the only father figure that his son had had in his life since the curse broke, maybe even before it. Neal worried that he'd never be able to live up to that and be the father his own son deserved.
He didn't know much about anyone here, not even his own son at this point. The only person he really knew something about is his father and that didn't help him. As far as Neal knew, all Emma's parents knew was that he had left their daughter to go to prison. Neal hoped that they would be able to see past this at some point and they could get to know everything about each other.
Neal was sitting in Granny's and keeping to himself like he usually did and had done his whole life. Neal was getting used to having himself surrounded by people, who actually treated him with kindness rather then how most people had. Granny and Ruby had treated him well, and offered him a room at their Bed and Breakfast.
This Diner was a lot quieter then the ones he was used to in New York, but, he didn't mind it all that much. Neal ran his hands over each other as he looked out the window, awaiting his order from Granny. As he heard the bell above the door, he looked up and saw David enter the Diner. Neal smiled softly before looking around the Diner once again. Soon, he noticed someone standing over him and he turned towards them and he noticed that it was David.
Neal looked at him and nodded “Hey. Not at all, feel free.” Neal said, as he gestured towards the empty seat across from him.

David entered the booth and took place on the seat across Neal. So far so good. He’d accepted to let him join, maybe that would be a good start for the conversation David had planned with the man. “So, are you starting to get used to this town already? I can imagine it’s a lot to take in when a lot of people you used to know are living here” David tried to be as subtle as possible but wasn’t sure if it was working out as he’d planned. He wasn’t here to start a fight, just to make sure that Neal wasn’t going to cause any more trouble in his daughter’s life. “Henry enjoys to spend time with you, that’s for sure. I barely see him at the apartment anymore. He didn’t even have time for his daily cup of hot cocoa.” David fold his hands together in front of him and let them rest on the top of the table. “I’m sure you two are enjoying yourselves.” The conversation he’d planned out sound way better inside his head than it did right now. This immediately started to change into a very awkward one. “What have you two planned out for the next days?”Neal Cassidy

Watching as David took a seat across from him, he sat up straight wondering if there was a reason he'd come to find him here. Neal ran his hands over the table, as he looked down, before looking up as David spoke. “I'm starting to. Yeah, it's a lot to take in. I don't exactly know many of these people, since I was out of the Forest long before you and all of them came into existence. But, with my father and Hook. Definitely a lot.”
Neal realised that the only two people he actually knew from this town right now, were the two people who had hurt him or caused him the most pain. He wasn't here for his father, he was here for his son Henry, and to attempt to make things right with Emma. Or at least be back on friendly terms with her. He didn't want to cause any trouble or anymore pain. Neal just wanted to lay low and spend time with Henry. “Well, that's good to hear I guess. You know, that I'm doing alright as a father. I'm sorry to hear that I'm taking him away from his hot cocoa.” Neal said. Neal had always worried that he would never be able to compete with the one and only Prince Charming as the 'father' in Henry's life.
“Yeah, we are. Definitely.” Neal said, remembering how much fun he and Henry had had sailing the Jolly Roger and sword-fighting together. Neal looked around the Diner and saw that it was mostly empty, which, compared to New York diners was new to him. Neal turned back to face David and ran his hands across the table, tapping his fingers on it gently. “Hmm... not quite sure. I normally just go day by day, but, I don't know how I'm going to top, teaching him how to sail a pirate ship.”

David listened carefully to what Neal had to say, studying his movements and the way he was acting while those words came across his lips. He wanted to make sure that this guy was speaking the truth and that he wasn’t just playing a part to be able to be on good terms again with Emma. David certainly didn’t want his grandson to be in the middle of things or a way for Neal to be making new movements towards his daughter. Maybe this wasn’t the right way to achieve the actual goal he had in mind with this conversation. Maybe it would be better to be more direct. “I’m glad to hear that you are getting used to this town. But can I ask you something?” David placed his elbows on the surface of the table and let his upper body lean upon it while he slightly leaned forward, closer towards the man and less able to be heard by people who were sitting nearby. “If you are playing a role just to be able to hurt my daughter again, I’m not going to be pleased.” He wasn’t intending on threatening the father of his grandson, but he wanted to make clear to him that this time Emma wasn’t going to be alone to go through this. Now it would be Henry as well. “I’m trying to trust you Neal and I’m sure that some others are doing the same, but I just want to have your word on the fact that you will never hurt my daughter again. She’d had to go through a lot because of you and I don’t want her to get hurt once more by the same person. Now it wouldn’t only be her that you get to, but also to my grandson. And I’m not wanting to let that happen.”Neal Cassidy

Neal answered David's questions honestly, he wasn't one to lie about anything. He was an honest guy, of course, most people may think differently, but, he was. He looked at David, wondering what exactly he was thinking, by looking at him the way he was. It was probably something to do with worrying that he may hurt Emma again, and Henry, but, that wasn't his intention. Neal was just here to get to know Henry, and he had no plans to leave his new family anytime soon. Running his hands back and forth over the table, he looked around the Diner, still getting used to it all. Oh, how different it was to New York.
Hearing David break the oh so awkward silence made him bring his attention back towards him. “Of course you can” Neal said, kind of expecting what was coming. Neal rested his hands on the table and listened as David asked his questions and then spoke. Neal nodded and let out a soft sigh “I promise you. This isn't an act and I'm not going to hurt her again.” Neal hadn't even meant to hurt her the first time, he had just wanted to allow her to get home. Get her to her family. Neal leant forward and nodded as David finished off his words to him, “You can trust me. You have my word, I won't be hurting her again. I know that I caused her a lot of pain and I have no intentions to do anything again. I'm here for one reason and one reason only, and that is to get to know Henry. I don't want either of them hurt either, and I will make sure that doesn't happen. Cross my heart.”

Once Neal started to speak, all of David’s attention went to him. The typical noises at the background were as if they didn’t exist. Everything that David could think about was to make sure that this guy wasn’t lying. At the end of Neal’s answer, David had heard enough to know that he was being honest. He could see it on the man’s behavior while he talked and at the tone of his voice. It wasn’t played, it was real. David gave the man an appreciated nod in return before he spoke. “I can tell that you’re being honest and I appreciate that. As much as I know on how hard you’ve hurt my daughter in the past, I respect your attempts on wanting to make it up with her for what you did and that you’re trying to bond with Henry.” David shuffled on his seat so he could lean against the back. He felt more relaxed already, partly because he’d had the chance to ask all the things he’d wanted to ask but mostly because he had the answers he hoped to get. Answers that were assuring him that his daughter was safe and that he didn’t had to worry any longer for her to get hurt. “There is only one little thing you should promise me. I know I’m asking a lot, but this is something with the same importance as the promise I made you do before. Don’t mention to Emma, Snow or Henry that we had this talk. This was between us.” Neal Cassidy

Neal finished answering David's question and he knew he meant all of it, he just hoped that David knew this. He knew that Emma had to get that supposed superpower from someone, but, he wasn't lying anyway. His tone was obvious with this, he was keeping a normal tone. Not the one he usually put on when he was lying.
Neal gave him a nod back before a soft smile, and leant back as David spoke again. “Of course I'm being honest. All I can do is try to make up for it, even if she can never truly get past it, I never plan to hurt her again. And I'm just here to bond with my son” Neal said, leaning back against the seat and lowering himself down a bit, in a more relaxed position. Neal never thought that, meeting a father of a love would be this tense. Mainly because he's not used to having grown-ups there to either talk to him or scare him away from their kids, and let alone to give him advice about it. “Deal, a private talk between men. I won't tell them.” Neal said, before leaning forward and clearing his throat “I have to ask you something as well. Henry. What was his life like during the curse? Was he happy?”

Neal’s question was one that made it hard for David to answer. During the curse David had a lot more work and attention to other people than his own grandson. To him that was the mayor’s kid. The kid that always ran around with a story book in his hands and that tried to spend as much time as possible with Emma. “I would want to tell you more about Henry during the curse, but I’m afraid I’m not able to. The only time I really spend time together with him was when he came together with Emma to my ‘welcoming home’ party and when he claimed me to be prince charming and Mary Margaret to be Snow white. Back then everything just sounded as if it was one big imagination of the boy. If you would want to know everything about how he was during the curse I think you better ask Emma herself. She can give you the answers that me nor Mary Margaret can.” David was absolutely honest about this, he would have loved to tell Henry’s father more about how his grandson had been during the curse, but he wasn’t really too sure if the boy had been happy… “I do know that Regina made him go into therapy with Archie as his imagination seemed to be getting out of hand. Back then we didn’t know that it was because he knew the truth and all of us didn’t. “ Neal Cassidy

Neal awaited an answer for his question about whether Henry was happy, he hated that he had to ask someone else to know whether his son was happy while he hadn't been with him. At least he could probably find out from someone else, at least he hoped so.
Hearing David's answer, he sighed sadly and leant back against the chair. “Well, it sounds like he was trying so hard to convince all of you of who you really were. Although, from the sounds of it, it didn't go over too well. I do appreciate it anyway, even if you can't tell me anything.” Neal said, looking at David before running his hands along the table.
“Well, it probably did sound a bit far-fetched at that point. It was one main reason I changed my name in the first place. Well, that and I was in hiding here, so revealing my true self wouldn't have helped much at all. I probably could've told Emma the truth, but, that may have scared her off.” Neal said.
