Set During the Curse, 'Pilot' Drive back to Storybrooke Thank God Emma had changed before settling up in the driver's seat of her yellow bug. Her favorite jacket had just been enough to ward off the chill from a typical Boston night. She had just gotten back from a rather short dinner out, where in reality she ended it just before it could even start. As a female bail bondsman she had to get creative when it came to cornering one of her targets. Walking out into a crowded city street chasing a man in heels, now that somehow was a normal night for Emma Swan. What she hadn't been expecting was some chatty young boy to come bursting through her apartment door and turn her world upside down. What a way to kill a lonely birthday night. Her eyes wandered over towards the boy, happily chatting away about some nonsense. She had to give him some credit for traveling to a city all by himself. It was both incredibly brave as well as stupid. Before tearing her eyes away from him she noticed there were certain features about him that were familiar. His jawline was most definitely from her and the way he had silenced her with that 'Well no shit' look back in the apartment. Emma was know for casting that at almost anyone. The hair though, that was from his father... Instinctively her hands tightened on the steering wheel. Cutting the boy off from his outlandish childhood fantasies, Emma said, "You do realized how upset your parents are going to be when they realize your gone, right kid?" She just hoped they didn't direct any of their feelings towards Emma. The blonde was not going to blamed for this kid's act of youthful rebellion. Emma just wanted this night behind her as she drove up the interstate highway to some obscure Maine town. What had he called it, Stonybrooke? Whatever it was, it sounded as though it was ripped straight from some 10950's television family show. One of those black and white programs that showcased the ideal American household.

”Well then,” she began, correcting her assumption that he had two parents in his life. ”,your mother is going to be very upset. And hurt.” She added on knowingly. As the sun began to peek up from the horizon, Emma remained silent and steadfast with her driving. The further she got away from the bustling city the weirder her GPS began to act. Several times along the trip the screen flickered and announced it was recalculating. Since Henry was too stubborn to give up his exact address, Emma had to blindly type in the city name and figure out a way later to coax his house address from the boy.
Emma wasn’t quite sure what had the kid bouncing up and down in his seat, but she was ready to bust his bubble on this whole “Fairy Tale” thing he had going on. Calling his mother evil was far from healthy. As he went on about his ‘evil’ mother he didn’t look as though he showed any sign of abuse. Having gone through the system and seen far worse days then Henry, she had a pretty good read on those who went through difficult times. ”Kid, I don’t think that’s really fair to say-” she mumbled. He was lucky to have a stable home for ten years- something she hadn’t experienced in her twenty eight years- and going on record trash talking the woman who provided that didn’t fly for the blonde.
Had she kept him all he would have known was struggle; struggle to survive, struggle for a sense of normalcy. No kid deserved that. That was why she didn’t have the poor sense to keep this boy when she had had him. For Christ sakes he was born in a jail cell. That didn’t scream mother of the year award. Most of his speech about some curse went through one ear and out the other as Emma squared her jaw, determined to not let his words affect her. ”I’m sure that’s not true-” she said offhand. As her car crossed over the town line of Storybrooke Maine, her GPS finally gave up and blacked out. ”What the-” With one hand on the steering wheel, the other quickly pried the small device off her dashboards. She had just bought this thing six months ago. There was no way this should have been tweaking out on her already.

Of course the boy had some strange answer explaining why her new GPS wasn't working. Once she got back to Boston she'd have to go argue with the guy who sold it to her. Someone Emma didn't believe she'd get her refund by saying it had been tampered with by a curse. ”Yeah, uh-huh, the curse is screwing with my GPS, not satellites.” she replied sarcastically. The street they were driving down looked like it was straight out of the Golden Era. Small consignment shops, a diner, a mechanic shop. Places like this just didn’t exist anymore not even in hokey small towns named Storybrooke. “Look, it's been a long night, and it's almost-“ There was also a large clock tower, the face of which didn’t seem to match up with her car clock. ”eight fifteen?” His answer was less than helpful.
As she slowed the car down and pulled over towards the curb, the blonde’s boiling point reached it’s high. Forcefully prying the door open she slammed the door a little harsher than she intended. She was frustrated with the whole situation the boy had dragged her into. Even for a ten year old his obsession with fantasy was as tight as a vice grip. Emma raised her right hand to her face and squeezed the two sides of her temple before closing her eyes. Shaking her head back and forth with the situation at hand, she thought real hard about how she was going to deal with Henry’s rambling nonsense of fairy tale, curses, and evil Queens.
”Seriously kid?” her tone full of exasperation. Throwing her hands up in defeat she circled a bit in her spot as she tried to think of a better way to get information out of Henry. Emma half expected the towns people to come bursting through their doors the minute they saw some strange lady with a child. Right one cue a man walking his dog seemed to spot the pair and began to chat up Henry. As he turned towards Emma she gave the man a quick look over- his red hair seemed a bit faded in color, his glasses pressed high on the bridge of his nose, and by the way he was dressed he seemed to be getting ready for the upcoming winter. Keeping his face steeled against any judgments he asked who Emma was. ” Just someone trying to give him a ride home.”
