Set During the Curse, Pre-Season One Finale Emma groaned, her eyes opening to slits. The sunlight burning through her curtain causing the drum beat in her head to speed up in time. Lifting her near, dead weight arms up, she pressed two fingers to each temple and rubbed gentle circles. She had seen this coming. Aside from the fact that winter had slammed into Storybrooke hard and fast, she had felt increasingly sluggish throughout the day yesterday. Emma had even gone to bed only an hour after dinner, claiming to have a headache, even if it wasn't a full blown lie.
The alarm clock finally blared to life and Emma Swan glared at the offending device. "I hate you." She sighed. Slowly, she removed the blankets that she had cocooned herself into, and regretted it almost immediately. The chill in her room ran straight down to her bones, and Emma immediately started to shiver. Reaching out a sluggish hand, she turned off the alarm clock. She eyed the comforter on her bed for an extra moment, contemplating bring it with her, but gave up that idea rather quickly.
Running a hand over her head, trying to will away the constant, slow, throb that seemed to run the full length of her head, Emma slowly made her way out of her room. She groaned inwardly. She should've guessed Mary Margaret would be one of those people who went overboard celebrating Christmas. Emma hated the holidays. She had always viewed the holiday season as just one more reminder of all the things she was missing out on by not having a real family. Growing up, she'd always felt a pang of jealousy listening to the kids at school discuss their holiday plans – most of which centered around family – and she couldn't help but feel envious watching her classmates compare Christmas gifts, when she was lucky if she even received one present from her foster parents.
Her roommate sat at the table, the paper in one hand and a coffee mug in the other. "Morning." Emma said, making a face at how stuffy her voice sounded. If the complete body ache, and constant headache wasn't enough a sign that she was sick, then the voice gave it away. She glanced down at her attire, a simple black tank top and a gray pair of yoga shorts. No wonder she was freezing. At least she had the decency to be dressed. ”Let me guess, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year?” she asked, not truly considered with the answer seeing as the holiday was still a few days away.

"Okay maybe I went a little over board but we both need cheering up. Plus I remember you said you never had a big kind of Christmas so I wanted to give you one, plus." Mary Margaret stood up quickly and lightly skipped over the simply dress Douglas fur tree."I got you something,(handing her the gift it was wrapped in bright white paper and a purple bow on top.) I hope you like it, as soon as I saw at Gold's I thought of you." She smiled brightly at the woman.
"Also get ready for a celebration to knock you off your feet, I'm talking caroling , a big dinner and what ever you want it's like your first Christmas. I'm so honored to be part of it Emma." Grabbing her cup to refill her coffee."What would like to do first? Caroling or cooking or watching a ton of holiday films?"
Mary just wanted to do something nice when everyone turn their back on her Emma was the only one to stand by her. Not evening David stood by her side, turning her head quickly away so the tears couldn't be seen. I won't cry I will not ruin her day. Pressing her eyes a little to stop the watery betrayers. The blond was such a good friend and deserved a happy day.

”Overboard may be an understatement in this case,” Still leave it to the school teacher to remember almost every little thing the Sheriff said. Leave it to her to be so thoughtful. She watched as the brunette literally skipped over towards the tree. ”Let me guess, you dress up as Santa’s little helper down at the school?” Mary Margaret definitely looked pixie-ish enough to pass for the fabled creature. As Mary Margaret passed over the box towards Emma, her mouth dropped in shock. ”I- You…Y-ou didn’t have to do that…” she said quietly. Emma certainly hadn’t thought of it.
Emma’s fingers lightly traced over the purple ribbon before setting it down on the kitchen island table top. ”Caroling? You can’t be serious,” Scratch that, this was Mary Margaret she was talking to. ”I don’t do singing” Not even in the shower. ”And you know me enough by now to know I’m fine with whatever is in the fridge…or take out…” She had to hand it to her roommate though, she had a ton of ‘Christmas Spirit’ for a holiday still a few days away.
She could tell something was bothering the good nature teacher as she turned her head away from Emma. Unsure of how to help out her new friend Emma decided to give in a bit on the whole idea of Christmas ”Alright…I’ll do the whole dinner thing and watch a few movies,” she said as she made her way over towards the coach. The blonde unceremoniously plopped down on the sofa seat. ”Just remember when I set foot in the kitchen that I have no idea what I’m doing in there.” The typical good housewife gene had passed over on Emma from whoever may have given it to her in the first place. ”And no telling Ruby that I caved so quickly,” she playfully warned. She had a reputation to keep up.

"No, just bad Christmas sweaters" Mary laughed at and shook her as went to go start some cookies. "So open it ,never been good at keeping it gifts from people." She hoped that she like the unicorn wind chime, she was draw to it in the store. Something about it made her think of her friend.Pulling out the ready to bake cookies and start to separate them on the cookie sheet. "Ok no caroling, but what about spiked egg nog." She winked at Emma as she turn to preheat the oven.
Mary Margaret widen her smile when the blond agree to do the dinner,"Alright so while the oven is warming up, we can make a list of what we need food wise. Do you have any fave dishes and don't I can teach you a few things to cook." The brunette grabbed the notepad and a pen from the counter. "Ok turkey green beans,.."
By the end of the list it was huge , "At least we will have , tons of left overs." The timer dinged and she threw the cookies in the oven."Oh don't worry your secret will be safe with me. Besides Ruby wouldn't believe useless I had proof and I'm staying away from Granny's for while." She really didn't want to see any of those people for while.

Emma grimaced at the thought of a Christmas sweater. They only ones she had seen were terrible jokes at parties from her all her time traveling. She even had one once that she quickly ditched the clothing article for it’s new home in the dumpster. ”Oh, cookies-” Emma just found the silver lining to this whole Christmas deal. Xmas had the best treats. The lack of hunting down perps and the increase in diner visits had Emma feeling sluggish these days. Still, that didn’t stop her from getting off of the sofa and waiting at the kitchen island for the cookies to be done.
”Cookies, spiked eggnog? Now that’s the kind of Christmas I could get use to.” Emma reached for the wrapped box once more and tried her best to open it with care. Mary Margaret had a certain Martha Steward way with presenting things. Probably came with the territory of grade school teacher. ”Pretty sure I’m suppose to open this on the 25th,” she teased.
Slowly Emma ripped through the white paper, popping open the top of the box. Inside there was a sizable looking piece. The Sheriff pulled out the wind chime, examining the unicorn-hanging object. Although Emma had never seen the chime in her life it was somehow it was familiar. ”Thank you,” she said softly. Normally she wouldn’t like things like this, but there was something special about this. Plus it was one of the first meaningful things she had ever received in her life.”A home cooked meal will do you good,” she offered as condolences. She could see why Mary Margaret wouldn’t want to be seen out in public for awhile. First slandered as the town’s home wrecker and then a murder could take a toll on someone as innocent as her.

Mary Margaret laughed at Emma excitement for the cookies,"It's going to take them about fifteen minutes to cook and then add another five to cool off .Unless you like em hot ?" She put the sugary delights in the oven and set the timer, turning back around to look at her roommate "What do you have planed today?"
"Well good we will start early, I'll need to buy a big bottle of Bourbon." Mary watched Emma look down at the present "Ha ha I would hope so , things are pretty quite on Christmas so I don't think the town will need their sheriff for the day. Oh before I forget do you want me to help you find Henry a gift?" She bounced around the island to hop down one of the dinning room chairs. I hope she likes it, perking her brows up as she watch Emma open her gift. Mary watched her friends face have a look of happiness . "I knew you would like it, When I saw it , the unicorns made me think of you." She leaned back lifted her into the chairs and crossed them at the ankles."yes, well that's what I have plan for us." Her heart ached a little all those people who.... shaking her head no she wasn't going to get in a funk.
