"Ares!" Zeus' voice boomed and lightning sprung to life around him, the clouds above were thick and full of rain but the storm was yet to come. His son was late for training, Ares had grown to be a strong and powerful man but had many things he still did not know. Zeus intended to teach him those things, wars were not only weon by the righteous and the wise, sometimes sacrifices had to be made. He stepped out onto the arena, the walls were made of a fine marble and the ground they stood on was covered in slashes and cracks as many had trained there before. Hera sat to the side, watching curiously as her husband held two swords in his large hand. His own and a sword crafted by Hephaestus especially to gift to Ares on this day. The day he reached adulthood, the day he truly became a man. But the god's patience ran low and he yelled again "Ares!" his voice boomed out and echoed through Olympus, calling to his son who still wasn't there. As he spoke the clouds above them roared to life with thunder and lightning lit up the arena, Hera called to calm him but he could not. He had business to attend to and if Ares did not show he would be punished severely. And at long last he saw his son, strong and tall running towards the arena. He flashed a thin lightning strike behind his feet in hopes to urge Ares to reach him as fast as he possibly can and convinced himself it was part of his training. Several of the gods had left, Aphrodite to attend to her many admirers, Artemis to her senseless hunting and Athena to guide a city through war. The other's idled around in their lavish castles doing god knows what but none of that mattered to Zeus. He needed a son willing to do whatever it takes to be the best, to do as his father commanded. Ares was that son. Ares

Rushing toward the arena he was late horridly late. No doubt by his father booming voice Ares was truly in trouble. Yet it was worth it Dity had talked him into sneaking out going to the world below celebrating in one of the humans many festivals. They had spent most of the night dancing and drinking . when it was time for the dawn to happen they watched it..well more like she watched the sun and he watched her. Sliding into the arena boots scuffing up the dirt a cloud arising up. Choking waving it away the young warrior kept his head down . eyes locked down to the ground Zeus father I am sorry I'm late. But I am here now trying his best to soothe the king so not to further the gods wrath. Moving forward to reach out to take one of the swords in Zeus hands . are we to practice more father? More rounds of punishment for my weariness? softly chuckling bending forward gripping the handle of the sword . Zeus's held history for it was the very blade that freed the gods from their prison deep in the belly of kronus . one day Ares dared hoped that very blade would be his the Titian killer.

Zeus watched his son with pride, he was still young and needed much training but he had grown to be a strong man but strong was not all you needed to be the god of war. Zeus circled his son, tracing glared into his back as he did, they were all so very afraid of their father, with good reason and it brought a smirk to the god's lips. "That you are" he agreed "why were you late?" he asked the boy "no doubt Aphrodite had a hand in this messy arrival" he tapped his sword against the armor adorning his son's chest "fasten your armor properly, have you learnt nothing yet" his voice was loud and overpowering but the lightning had died down and only the thunder roared to life above them. "This is no laughing matter Ares. Ready your stance, your training begins. . ." Zeus could remember a time where he laughed alongside his son, where this was more playful at times than deadly but those days were gone and his heart had grown heavy and harsh "now" he lifted the sword with expert precision knocking Ares' out of the way and pointing the sharp blade to his neck. "You are dead"his anger spiking "use your training, try again" Zeus waited patiently to see whether his son had the courage and the means to defend himself. He needed this warrior to be the best weapon immortality could provide, if being harsh and strict achieved that then so be it.

The push by his father leading into the blade being pointed toward his throat made Ares angry. When would he do anything right enough? Lifting his sword up brushing it against the metal of Zeus's. Jabbing forward Ares spun about elbowing the back of his father.
Bouncing from foot to foot Ares went in after that for another attack but his armor got in the way. The sleeve of tunic shirt got caught in mid-swing. Cursing for the hit only came at half force .ripping the leather armor off his chest for today he would go unprotected. Aphrodite isn't always to blame for my short comings father. Dont talk about the woman I love in such a manner.
Barked out in anger moving away from Zeus. Why did everything have to war or battle between them ? Why couldn't his father love him like Artemis or even Apollo. What was the problem with himself that made it so much of a disconnect between them.
I am fully aware this isn't a laughing matter . you have joked or laughed eions I am beginning to wonder if you even remember how to laugh. Ares spoke freely to Zeus . this was something he often wondered what had happened to make the joyful king so bleak and deary? Spinning the handle of sword he swung the weapon the clink of metal rung out in the arena.

Zeus easily dodges his son's oncoming attacks and as his armor fell to the floor with a loud thud he slammed his palm into Ares's chest so hard the god flew to the ground harshly. Another clumsy mistake his father would never let him forget, practice makes perfect and Ares was young and foolish and did not take his training as seriously as he should. But the harsh training his father had planned will easily mold him in the weapon he needed.
"That is thoughts that only distract you from the battle Ares" for once the hit his son had aimed stumbled Zeus's posture and a proud smirk grew upon his lips "I do not laugh for I have no reason to laugh. The only idiot who is humorous is your brother Dionysus, and that is only if he drank too much to even walk" his tone was low and deadly, it was true Dionysus was a jester but laughter had evaded the god for so long that he could not recall how his own laugh sounded.
Zeus flashed his palm and lightning sparked from his skin until a figure stood in front of his son, white as the lightning surged but another opponent to face nonetheless. He held a sword Zeus had brought extra for the very reason to intensify the challenge for his son "this will be a new challenge Ares, defend yourself properly or burn through lightning" he nodded his head stepping back slightly to watch the new battle unfold.

WORDS: 000 | TAG: Zeus | NOTES: xyz
The blows made by his father only made Ares feel more determined to prove himself. Yet with spoken attacks on Dionysus the young warrior lowered his guard causing him to go flying off across the arena . the air knocked out of him a upon hitting the ground. Rolling on to his side agonizingly slowly did Ares stand back up, legs feeling of jello . a copper tang filled his mouth knowing full and well that chunk of his tongue was missing.
Dionysus isn't a fool Father , he is just young like most of your children. We are all still finding our way reasoning was not Ares forte that was more of Athena area. But it still wouldn't stop him from defending his sibling. Since the anger in Zeus began to become more prominent the brothers and sisters of the Parthenon began to form alliance. To stick together through thick and thin .
The lightening being formed from the power of creation from the king . the young warrior knew he had only found himself in a world of hurt. This was going to be intense problem. Readying his sword up Ares began to circle the flashing body preparing to find a weaknesses to assess . deciding that he would have to chop the creation into pieces. Attacking the lighting man with all his might thrusting the sword toward person only to met with a shock zapping Ares into a pillar. Falling to the arena floor and the stone pillar crumbling on top of the god. Crying out the marble crushing his dominant hand. father please help me
Family is power Always and forever

Zeus had long ago seen the new bonds that entwined between his children and somehow his greatest weapon in the making had become entranced by the strength they thought they shared. He had to get his son off this path as soon as he could for if he did not his greatest weapon could become his undoing. He watched Ares with a strict glare flicking his wrist to add to the power and ferocity of the sparring dummy he had created, perhaps a lesson in pain will be a lesson learned.
Zeus watched Ares closely, his skills had become much more refined and his form much better but his mind still corrupted his power and for that he was losing slowly but surely. Zeus saw the love of his siblings still eating away at the ruthless warrior just waiting to be released. But as his son crushed the pillar and marble crushed him Zeus could not help the satisfied grin that met his lips. He stepped closer to his son, slowly and measured before crouching down and meeting a desperate gaze.
If he wanted the weapon he so desperately desired he needed his son to know pain and suffering so darkness can cloud his heart instead of love and care "Of course Ares" he said with a gentle yet fake smile as his hands gripped the pillar and lifted it halfway before letting it fall with a crushing impact "If only you were better at fighting saving you would not be necessary!" Zeus yelled angrily towards his son before standing up, walking back the way he had came. His palm flicked backwards and lightning tore the marble to a soft dust leaving his son room to breath. Even though it lifted the heavy weight from Ares, it still left a burn where lightning grazed his skin. Zeus wanted desperately to hold his son and apologize for the harsh training but the thought lasted a mere second before darkness clouded his thoughts and a vile satisfied smile grew upon his lips.
"Remember Ares, love will not win your wars. If you wish to honor me, to be the son you are supposed to be you will change. Leave these petty emotions aside and be a warrior, not a simple god tainted by sweet words and happy thoughts" his voice monotone and eerily scary.
