This was what she needed right now. A mug filled with strong black coffee and people that were filling the background with their talking. Nothing more was needed, nor asked for. Emma looked around, the mug between her hands, warming her palms. Every now and then she tried to figure out what people were saying by reading their lips. But more than half a sentence wasn’t able to get clear. Mary Margaret was probably hiding underneath the covers of her bed, fighting the demons of what she did to Cora while David tried to pamper her. Pampering was not going to work to get her out of that bed, she just had to man up and start climbing out of that dark place where she was in now. Pampering was not going to bring her back to the surface. The bell at the entrance of Granny’s diner betrayed someone coming in. Probably another soul that felt like eating the best lasagna in the world together with the best coffee. Emma turned her head to see who’d came in, noticing that it was Neal, she gave him a little wave. Once he’d come over she gave him a small smile. “On the need for a strong coffee too? Or would it be for a burger to start the day?” Even though she only met him again a few weeks ago, she still knew his habits from when they were younger. Neal Cassidy

THERE ARE NO COINCIDENCES. EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS, HAPPENS BY DESIGN He didn't know what he needed, all he knew was that he needed to hear other voices around him, to keep him away from his own thoughts right now. He had been convinced to stay in this town within close range to his father, in order to get to know his son properly. Neal didn't want to face his father again right now, all he wanted to do was live his life like he once had, and, include his son in it. Neal continued to see images in his head that he didn't want to see. Images of that moment here in this town with his father on the brink of death, combined with him in the foster homes and all of those other places because this same man had abandoned him. The majority was making him conflicted because he saw the man he had always loved, and, missed on some level. Waking up in the Bed and Breakfast, Neal decided that the first thing he would do today is head down to the Diner for something to eat. He'd only been there a couple of times, and, so far the food hadn't been that bad. Alot better then the food he'd had for most of his life. Before New York anyway. Hearing the bell above the door of Granny's as he entered caused most people to turn and look at him. Neal's gaze went around the Diner, and, he smiled as he spotted Emma waving at him. Neal waved back before walking towards her. “Maybe a bit of both. What about you coffee and a bear claw? Or just the coffee.” Neal said, smiling as he slid into the booth opposite Emma. The two of them may have only reunited recently, but, they still remembered each other's favourites from all those years ago.

“I already wondered what was missing…" Emma said with a smile. Neal remembered that. Her love for bearclaws combined with the delicious taste of freshly made coffee. For some reason it made her think back at those moments during the mornings when they would sit next to each other in the yellow bug car, a blanket draped over the both of them, trying to wake up from another cold night that went through the city with the help of some coffee and pastries. Of course they were always able to get bought by stealing the money from others… but hey, they had to do something to survive. Emma took another sip from her coffee as her eyes locked with Neal’s. “You’re up early. Apparently some things do change…” another small smile followed. He would never be up at this hour when they were younger. He preferred to stay underneath the covers for as long as possible, or at least if he didn’t want to surprise Emma with some food and drinks for breakfast. “Or you must have changed your life or something must be up and keeping you from having a lie in.” Emma frowned and leaned back so she came into contact with the booth. “You might have disappeared out of my life Neal, but there are certain things that stay the same. In this case, the way you look when you are thinking about something.” Neal Cassidy

THERE ARE NO COINCIDENCES. EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS, HAPPENS BY DESIGN “I'm sure you already knew what was missing” Neal said, smiling softly. One thing that hadn't changed, was how well he remembered everything about Emma. And that included what she liked. The talk of bearclaws and coffee combinations made Neal remember most of the early mornings living in their car. The coffee, and, on a good day pasteries just enjoying the warmth of having those, no matter how poor or how cold they were. Well, it had been thanks to the help of all those others whose money he'd 'borrowed' to allow them to get them. Neal glanced around the Diner, and, then looked back at Emma as she mentioned about him being up early. “Yeah, I am. Well, it has been a few years.” Neal smiled before glancing down at the ground. Back all those years ago, Neal only really woke up early when he wanted to surprise Emma with coffee and breakfast. “Well, originally changing my life was the plan, but, I'm still not a fan of early mornings. Tamara will confirm that.” Neal chuckled softly, hoping that the talk of Tamara wasn't the wrong thing to say. “I would tell you it's nothing, but, we both know it's not true. The truth is it's just everything that happened with my father since I got back here.” Neal said, as he sat down on the chair opposite Emma. “I hated him for my whole life since that moment he abandoned me, but, now with me knowing what I know about his desperation to find a way back to me. I want to hate him, but, I just... I don't know what to think, or what to do.”

And there the name of Tamara got mentioned again… It took a bit of effort from Emma not to make a disliking face by hearing that name. There was something not entirely right about that woman. Every time Emma saw her, she got that same untrusting feeling. The one that had proven to be right a lot of times in her past already. “Well, you’ve changed quite a lot of things in your life already so… I guess that’s a good thing right? I can only think that you have a job now and you’re being together with someone who loves you so… that is quite the change already.” A small smile followed her words. Emma listened to what was bothering him. His father clearly was the problem. “Neal, maybe you can go to him, and tell him how you really feel? Tell him what you just told me, the truth on how he made you feel and the doubts you have now?”Emma reached one of her hands out to Neal’s and place it on top of his while her eyes locked upon him. “I think that by telling him the truth how you are feeling that it will make the two of you feel better.” Neal Cassidy

Neal was surprised that Emma didn't react to him saying Tamara's name. Emma had seemed to have an issue with her, ever since she met her. Neal assumed he knew why that was, but, he wasn't going to say it out loud. He was probably already in enough trouble with his big mouth at times, Neal wasn't going to make things worse. “Yeah, I guess in a way it is. I never thought I'd actually get both of those things at once and for them to stick. I mean, I had you once. But, the job thing, kind of new for me. Big change having both.” Neal returned Emma's small smile. Mentioning his father being the problem made him turn his hands into fists on the table. “What's the point my father's never been one to listen to anyone, except for one person, himself. Besides, no-one else has ever listened to me, why would he?” Neal glanced down at both of their hands, as she placed hers on top of his. A small smile grew on his face as she looked into his eyes. “I want to tell him how I feel, but, I'm worried if I do, he'll want to use magic to try and fix everything.”Emma Swan

“For the record, I wasn’t the one who decided to leave and run off. You could have had both a long time ago Neal.” Emma removed her hand from his. A part of her kept thinking about what he’d done to her eleven years ago. It sounded like a very long time since Neal had left her and made her end up in jail, but time was not going to make her forget about it. Emma might have forgiven him, but it will always be in the back of her mind. “If I were you I would keep an eye out for Tamara and I don’t mean that in a positive way.” Emma brought her arms in front of her chest and crossed them, shielding herself for a possible disappointed reaction from Neal. “I first didn’t want to talk to you about this, but I really think that I should. There is something not right about Tamara. I don’t exactly know what it is yet, but every time I see her there is a part of me that warns me to be on my guard. I know that all of this might sound as if I’m a jealous ex, believe me Mary Margaret already pointed that out, but I swear Neal that there is something not okay about that woman.” Emma couldn’t hold her thoughts in any longer. Neal had to know what she thought or she would take those thoughts with her into the next coming days and nights. If there would be something going on with Tamara it wouldn’t only affect Neal, but also the rest of the town. “Maybe this would be a good time to start talking with him Neal. I know that you think he won’t be listening or will be using magic, and I can’t guarantee you that he won’t but at least you would have tried. I think that if you don’t, you’re going to regret it.” Neal Cassidy

| Those words made Neal sigh softly “I know Emma. I don't know how many more times I could say sorry.” Neal had explained all of that, and, he wasn't sure what else he could do. He just wanted to focus on the future, and, being tolerable of each other for their son's sake.
“What do you mean? There's a lot of things I need to watch out for, but, my fiancée isn't one of them” Neal didn't know why Emma was doubting Tamara. Why was it so hard to believe that someone could love him for real? Without a hidden agenda behind it.
“So why exactly do you assume that she's up to something? Not everyone is a bad person, and, I trust her. If I felt I had to have my walls up then I would have done it already. Tamara's not like that. Hey, you said the jealous ex thing I didn't, but, I'm not going to doubt it. So, why don't you tell me what you think it is that isn't right about her?” Neal couldn't believe that no-one was just letting him be happy with Tamara. His father didn't like her, which didn't matter all that much, because he stopped being allowed to have an opinion a long time ago. But, now Emma didn't seem to just accept his happiness either. The only people who seemed to be accepting of it were Henry, which he was actually glad about, and, Snow and Charming, who he had only met a few short days ago.
“What's the point? I know he won't listen, and, he can't help himself when it comes to magic. Our talk in New York led to him offering to reverse everything with magic. He rarely let me talk to him about anything, because everytime I started, he had gotten called away for his Dark One duties back in the Forest. He didn't make time for me then, so why would he make time for me now?” | |

Of course he brought down Emma’s suspicions. It was to be expected he would do that. When you love someone and made plans to marry in the nearby or late future, the truth and ability to see the truth were one big blur. Emma knew that your vision about someone changes when you truly love that person. A vision that was hard to break. “A few days ago I bumped in on her, here at Granny’s. She was getting herself some coffee I suppose but it wasn’t exactly that where she was eager to grab for when we almost knocked each other over. There was a paper which fell down right in front of my feet. It was filled with names. Names from people who live here with their fairytale names next to it. I picked it up and handed it over to her without letting her notice what I saw. Neal, don’t you see this? Why would she be carrying around a list of people of this town with their real names next to it? You can’t tell me that isn’t suspicious.” Emma barely blinked when she spoke to him. She could only hope to get his support. That was all she needed right now. A sigh left her mouth when the subject changed onto Rumplestiltskin. She knew about the messed up relationship between Neal and him but that didn’t mean that it couldn’t be alright at one day. Who knows… maybe one of them would stop being stubborn and would actually place the first move. “Neal, I don’t know what I can tell you about that anymore. Maybe he changed?” she shrugged. “Look, all I’m saying is that it wouldn’t hurt to try. That’s all” Emma’s eyes wandered through the diner, halting at the clock that hung behind the counter, next to the signs with food that has the most incredible low prices. She had to start going to the station. “I will have to go to the station now Neal, but can you at least let me know if you think that Tamara is acting strange? Even though it sounds crazy and like a jealous ex trying to find a reason to make you break up with her.”Neal Cassidy

Neal Cassidy | Neal wasn't going to believe that someone else he cared about was using him. Especially someone he loved. He was planning a life with Tamara, and, the two of them were going to get married. Why would she agree to that if she was using him?
“That may look suspicious, but, Emma I helped her make that list. She wanted to try and come to terms with all of this stuff for me, so, we sat down and started making the list together. She's probably carrying it around, so that she can get to terms with it faster, and, so that when she runs into them, she won't get their fairytale aliases mixed up.” Neal said, leaning forward with his arms resting on the table.
Neal sighed softly as the subject changed to his father rather then Tamara. “Yeah, maybe he has. But, maybe I should.”
He looked at the newspaper that the person at the table opposite them was holding. Neal saw the main headline, and, it made him raise his eyebrows. Somehow, he'd made the headlines about being a newcomer in this town. Neal ignored it, especially as Emma spoke.
“Maybe she is acting a bit strange, but, it's a new town, and, a whole new concept with the fairytale stuff. She's probably trying to find a way to make it seem normal for her while she gets used to everything.”
