There it was. The memory that kept Neal from having a decent amount of sleep and that made him toss and turn the whole night. Emma felt sorry for him as she could imagine how it was feeling to go through a memory like that every night again. Her own parents had abandoned her, which hurt too, but Emma had never known them. Neal did. Neal had known his father, how he looked like, how his voice sounded, how he was as a person. Neal had more than just the knowledge of having parents walking around somewhere. Emma reached one of her arms out and placed her hand onto his. Caressing the skin of his hand with her thumb. “I’m glad that you told me Neal. I know that it must be hard to go through that moment over and over again. I really do, but maybe your mind only wants you to see that the life you have now is better than the one you had? Maybe it doesn’t want to make you remember that moment but something entirely else?” Emma looked up at him, worry in her eyes. Worry that was stronger than the relief she felt once he finally told her what was truly going on inside that mind of his. Neal Cassidy

There it was, him finally saying it out loud to someone who would listen. The memory that had haunted him since he arrived in Neverland. The reason he was alone, and, had felt lost and unwanted for countless years. Neal knew that Emma had been abandoned by her parents too, but, there was a strong difference between their two situations. Neal knew everything about his father, and, remembered everything they once had. Emma knew nothing about hers, except for the fact that they left her on the side of the freeway. Neal still felt sorry for Emma, but, in ways their situations were different, even if the results were the same. Neal looked down as Emma placed her hand on top of his, and, a small smile grew on his face. “I guess I'm glad I told you as well. It really is hard, having to re-see it every night. I don't think that's true Emma, I don't think that's why. I'll admit this life is better, but, I'm sure it is just trying to make me remember that no-one wanted me. Starting with my own father.” Neal lowered his head as he looked down at his feet once more, before looking back up at Emma. He had to admit, he enjoyed the fact that she was worried about him, for the first time someone understood and cared about what he was going through. Emma Swan

“Well…” Emma said with a teasing smile as she stood up from the edge of the bathtub, pulling Neal with her with one of her hands. “…I for one am not planning on getting rid of you that quickly… maybe I even dare to say that you are very much wanted.” The same teasing smile stayed onto her features. “Just try to relax okay? I know that it’s not easy but it has no use on spending time inside the bed when you aren’t able to sleep. Maybe… maybe we can go out. Hang a bit around onto the street. Who knows we might find something interesting.” Emma locked her eyes with his, wondering what he might think of this idea. It would at least be better than getting kicked against her legs the whole time while Neal tried to find the right position to sleep at or when he was going through another nightmare. “Or if you just want to go back to bed that’s fine too, but I’m going to be sleeping on that couch over there then. I’m not really looking forward on getting kicked again.” Emma walked towards the door of the bathroom and made her way out. She only had to wait onto what he was going to decide to do. Neal Cassidy

A small smile grew on his face at Emma's teasing tone, even if he was slightly worried. Neal looked at Emma as she pulled him up with one of her hands, and, then chuckled softly as she spoke the rest of her sentence. “I'm glad to hear that. At least I can feel wanted with someone, really the only person who matters to me now.” The small smile staying on his face. Neal then lowered his head at Emma's next words “Relaxing isn't that easy. You're right, there probably isn't much point. I'll just be lying there, but, not really able to get back to sleep.” Neal paused as he thought over her suggestion of wandering the town, as opposed to him tossing and turning all night probably not going to be able to get back to sleep at all. And he probably would've kicked Emma again, until he did. “You don't even want to be in the same bed as me, now that kind of hurts” Neal said in his usual sarcastic tone. Neal then watched as Emma left the bathroom, which one did he want to do? Attempt to lie in a bed when he wouldn't be able to sleep no matter how hard he tried. Or wandering the streets with a woman he loved to allow him to get his mind off of it. Neal then sighed softly as he made his way out of the bathroom, and, back out to Emma. “You know what Emma. Let's go take a walk. It might be good for me right now actually.” Neal leant against the bathroom door, and, smiled before looking at her and awaiting her response. Emma Swan

Emma expected Neal to pick the option of going for a walk. It was the middle of the night, but there were places inside this city that looked way more beautiful during the nights than during the days. A small feeling of victory rushed through Emma’s stomach when she got Neal to realize that it wouldn’t have any use to keep thinking about things that made you sad. You just had to get over it and live your life now. At least that was what Emma had tried to do a lot of times already. And now she had someone with her where she could do this together with. Excitement raised by the thought of leaving this little loft with the man she loved and the time they would spend with each other without any kind of worry on their minds. Emma hurried herself to Neal, wrapped her arms around him and gave him a passionate kiss. Her eyes locked with his once she stopped and their lips broke apart. “I love you Neal. You know that right?” Emma sometimes doubted that he knew how much she truly loved him. Maybe she just said it not enough? “Let’s get our jackets and get out of this place for a bit” Emma said with a smile, patting his back a few times before making her way to the door of the tiny loft. Neal was glad that Emma was willing to go for a walk with him. Even as a kid, Neal had always been more drawn to places at night, rather then during the day. There was just something about it that he was drawn to and attracted him to it.
He realised that on some level Emma was right. It was not going to do any good to focus on things in his past that made him sad. It had happened too many times while on Neverland, and, then later on in the foster system. It had only made him feel worse, and, unwanted all over again. At least now he had someone who he could finally be wanted and happy with.
Looking at Emma's eyes, Neal wrapped his own arms around her and returned her kiss. There was a warm feeling that came over him everytime she did that. A strange feeling that he didn't hate. It was a feeling of love.
"I love you too." Neal said, smiling at her.
Neal did know that, but, he didn't hate hearing it again.
"Yeah let's get out of here." Neal gently stroked Emma's hair before following her out of the loft. He zipped up his jacket and then took a light hold of Emma's hand as he caught up to her.
